Making my way South!!!
My name is Fletch and I am 27, I am doing a two year RTW.
I will be leaving Colorado Saturday the 5th of November, crossing into Baja @ Tecate on the 7th and will be at a wedding near Cabo through the 12th. I will catch the ferry to mainland on the 13th and be on my way taking the Pacific Coast down to Chile and then over to Argentina. Then Shipping over to South Africa sometime in April-May. I will be taking my time Staging (cooking internships) along the way. I am very flexible with where I am going can be persuaded to leave the coast for some rad adventures. Up for anything will be camping and staying at a few hostels as well. Would be awesome to hook up with other riders who are easy going and are down for some good times and awesome riding. Hit me up Would also be down for a group get together as well. Fletch Home Page |
I know there are a few other post about heading South around the same time... Just wanted to throw it out there.. thanks

Hey Fletch,
Have you thought about going down the east side of Baja then crossing over to the highway? It includes a rough as hell dirt road, but you get to see more of Baja and potentially cross at a very quiet crossing. Can be windy in the north, but it only gets better from there. Perfect pavement till it runs out though (and it does abruptly!). Try hitting that at night doing around 100. I think some of us were airborn... Either way, if you aren't worried about some gravel, sand, and big rocks on the road you can stop at some great Baja locations like Alfonsinia's (sp), Coco's corner, etc. Might even shave some distance. |
see you on the road
Will be leaving on the 18th of october from Montreal all the way down to Ushuaia. My routing in Mexico will be different then yours but we might bump in each other after down the road. :mchappy:

Sounds good, we will keep in touch .. Safe riding.. see ya'll soon....

Hey Fletch,
Read ur blog sounds awesome mate, selling everything and riding for 2 years living the dream! I'm leaving Argentina on Sept 2012 heading north thru chile and onwards and upwards, heading the opposite way but maybe we cross paths and can ride a bit together. Would be sick to have a travel buddy for a while Cheers Davo |
Hey I just went through the Larado border crossing two weeks ago. There was no problems. I was advised by a couple of families to stay on the toll highway number 35 to avoid potental problems. Monterrey is very very busy and it was tuff to find a place to stay for the night. I went east to the coast and the roads were good for the most part. Watch out if you go to Tampico the muni. police are at every light and if you are riding in the left lane or middle lane you will most likely get a ticket. Sounds like it is there regular game there. The roads around Veracruz are quite slow and need of serious repair.
Good luck I am hanging in Belize for a few days, let me know if you want to put down some miles south! Cheers Rob |
I have made it to Puerto Escondido
I will be staying in Escondido for the next week or so taking spanish classes. Would be rad to cross into Guatemala, let me know if your going to be around this area or near the border around the same time. I have no timeline just living the dream, can slow down or speed up. Hit me up and let know. Fletch

I sent you one earlier tonight. I'm in Oaxaca. I could head there tomorrow but if I do I'd like to crash there for a couple days. Then I don't know how interested you are heading to Belize. It's a lot further but cool stuff to see on the way. I'm enjoying Mexico, but getting my fix. I am looking forward to a new country I think soon and more off-road adventures! |
