Leaving Spain mid - october , and planning to get to SA by the end of december , anybody around ? will be travelling on a gs . Best . Luis

We are planning to cross to Morocco on the 10th Oct.(hopefully) going west route in our Landy. Maybe we will meet on the road. First stop chefchaouen then mouley on the coast before Rabat for vises. Dave www.vengavamos.com

I dont think I ll be able to depart that soon , was thinking of going across around the 20th , i m in London right now sorting out visas , health checks etc ... going on a GS . I could definetly catch up with you guys before you get to Dakhla . Lets keep in touch . Luis

Just contact the RACE in Madrid, they issue the CdP (and don't say it loud: cheaper than elsewhere, otherwise forget about GS!)

We tried RACE website in Spain but didn't even reply,you would need to phone so would need good Spanish. Our vehicle is U.K. registered and we are glad we kept it that way as Spain frown on any modified vehicles. Also paperwork takea ages out here. If you go for the Spanish carnet be prepared to wait a while.
We have been delayed a week (were due to leave today)because we are waiting for new dricing licences (5 weeks now) so hopefully will leave next week.

RACE procedure didn't take me long, but bank guarantee (aval bancario) was a pain, having to open new account, blocking the amount, signing before a notary, etc. Fortunately, i'm Spanish (native speaker). But the deposit is minimal compared to UK. 2 people work on CdP in race, but i've their numbers in Spain... :(

ITV (MOT) is really hard to pass after any modification, you'd need an engineer's certification. EDIT: I refer this comment particularly to cars and any modification to convert it into a campervan.

I m also spanish , so far so good ! will know more next week . But looks promising , RACE people extremly helpful .

Yes, they are very nice. I picked it up myself in their office in Madrid downtown on the way out of Spain. If I recall correctly, RACE branches send this kind of documents to Madrid once a week (valija interna). Also once a week back to them. So, if you are in a rush, propose them to send the application by courier paid by yourself, to speed up the process (same for the way back).

Tell them to send you in the meantime the draft of the bank guarantee (el modelo del documento de aval bancario), so you can send it to your bank to proceed and get everything ready just to sign.

Hi Mus,

I found the bank guarantee issued by Santander Bank that I got for the car. Hope it helps if you did not get it from RACE yet. Important: it has to be literally the SAME, every word, except obviously vehicle details, your name and the amount guaranteed (I said the value of a 23 y/o R-5 was 300€ -which may be plain truth- and got the minimum of 780€ deposit):D

No, I am not going anywhere now; would love to ride Africa though, but just came back from a trip and have to work again!
