Mexico - Baja & Copper Canyon
I would like to make a "shakedown" trip to Mexico this Spring before heading South toward TDF starting in May/June from Los Angeles. I was thinking about going down Baja to Cabo, then ferry across to the mainland and then to Copper Canyon and back to LA. I could go in the reverse direction also.
I'm thinking anywhere from late February to mid-April for departure. Anyone with interest in joining me and/or with info on routes, side trips, bike mods, or anything else would be greatly appreciated. Since I'm a noob to this forum, I can't PM or email yet, but you could use my email of motomon at pobox dot com. Chris Brown, '06 Suzuki DR650 |
I live in Yuma, AZ, and while I couldn't join you, if you come in or out of Mexico this way, we could meet up. There are two border crossings; one in the most northeastern bit of Baja Norte at the town of Algondones, and the other in the westernmost city of Sonora State. Either one is super quick on motorcycle (you just ride past the all the cars lined up for miles and hours to the head of the line), but Algodones is probably much easier.

Coming back from CC you have various options: |
Mollydog, this is a funny question from someone who lives right here, but which crossing in Yuma do you think is a better route for someone traveling through? I have crossed both (Algodones and San Luis) and looped around, but which one would be the better suggestion to keep going through. I know that getting out I prefer Algodones due to the single line of cars vs. several lines to jump to the front of, but is there a big difference for someone traveling into Mexico?

Honestly, I can't recall.
