Planning trip Dec 08' or Jan 09'

Hi Josh,

Last year I rode through Mexico for 2 months and am planning similar trip leaving in either Dec 08' or Jan 09' with the addition of Central Ameica on the itinerary. Let me know what your thoughts are. Shayne

Mexico

I always love Molly Dogs advice....spot on. My $.02 is you will love the states of Chiapas as well as Tobasco. I have done them 4x and still want more. There also is a town in NE Mexico named "Aldama". I'm not sure why but it is a special place, maybe the energy. It is very small and poor but the people there are outrageously giving. I could live there. Good luck and have fun....Lizanne

Hey Shayne

Just wondering are you going alone? I was planning a trip to Iceland but I can't seem to get any solid answers to my ? However I am itching for a solid ride at the end of the year somewhere so I'm thinking of hooking up with a group that has some know how (since I only rode US Canada and Alaska) I hava a BMW 1150 GS ADV which I know that will do for south of the border but I don't speak Spanish have no clue on laws and after checking out the right pack section I come to realization that crap man I don't even pack the right stuff I guess I got a lot to learn I've allways been the kind of wing it man and have fun. Well I'm of to a store to get some learn Spanish tapes.

Go for it!

Hey Josh,

Nothings better than "south-of the-border"! That is if you are not uptight. Follow mollydogs advice, find some friends, and go for it. I lived 3 years in Chiapas and as lizanne says: it is beautiful! I would go the eastern route to Veracruz on the coast, then work your way to San Cristobal de las Casas in Chiapas. That's one town you won't want to leave!

Then to the Pacific coast via Tuxtla and down to Guatemala, etc. Depending on how you advance, I will be leading a group of friends on a 5,000 km loop within Peru starting and ending in Cuzco in late June 2009. Join us! :mchappy:

My 17 RO son and I did 10,000 km this summer on 250's and now he is hooked! :oops2: Around the Block 2007 |

Hi Shayne

I also did Mexico last year for 3 months. Love it. I will ride Alaska this summer and will leave my bike somewhere in San Diego area. Jan 09' plan to ride Panama and ultimately Argentina. Would like to tour a little bit more in Guatemala but do not want to ride it alone. If you are riding in the same direction...?

I am planning a very similar trip about the same time of year that you are going however I haven't yet decided on a bike (either purchasing a drz/klr in the states, or might even ship my ct110 over) and also I might stay in costa rica or columbia for a while teaching english or working in I.T.

Please keep me updated to what your plans are and maybe we can arrange something if you are interested.

Setting off from Seattle first week October for all points south to TDF, down west coast, then around S America Atlantic Coast, up Amazon to Manaus, then back North. Stop off (fly into) Falklands for a cup of tea.

BMW GS 1150 Adv. Filming and making tea along the way.

It's a Brit thing. Happy if an ex con wants to join in, just don't mention cricket!

TravellingStrom 9 Mar 2008 09:07

Central America

I dirt biike baja about 2x a year and have done 3 trips to panama.
It is not a pain to cross the borders if you pay the kids 10 bucks to get you across the borders.

That 10 bucks saves you a day of time and frustration....the kids are worth every penny....Make sure to stay with your passport though...

Have a great trip

Forrestbault 13 Mar 2008 15:45

I'll be leaving US first of Jan as well for TDF. Put me one your list of possibiltys for sure....

bogriffinrides 14 Mar 2008 21:25

Aldama

Lizanne, can you be more specific about Aldama? I find several in Mexico. There's one in Tamaulipas and one similar in Nuevo Leon. Are you referring to the one in Tamaulipas? I have traveled to Mexico several times and would like to stop by there sometime based on your comments. Did you find a place to stay while you were there?

One Week Til We Are On the Road!

A friend and I are leaving Telluride, CO, next Wednesday (assuming a number of events transgress as planned) heading down to Panama, maybe farther, "planning" to be back in the states on April 1st.

We are going down through Silver City, NM, then to Bisbee, AZ, then maybe to Tucson to get my brakes bled (damn ABS) and then south. We want to see Copper Canyon but otherwise head south rather rapidly to the warm. :Beach:

No Plans, see you all down there.

Not much here yet, but it will fill out soon.
