Mexico and Central America in Jan or Feb.
Hey,
I am planning a trip from Texas through central Mexico and the Yucatan down into central America and back up through Baja. I am pretty flexible with dates. I'd like a riding buddy for security. I am 49. I like to have a beer or too after a day of riding. I plan on taking time to see things. I ride a R1200GS. Respect, Jeff |
Hey Jeff,
I leave San Diego next week to do the reverse of your trip. Good luck finding a riding buddy - I found one for the first few weeks of my trip which is reassuring for a Mexico virgin. Might see you on the road, Matt |
There are several of us leaving in Feb. to Central America. We will be leaving from Tucson and probably go along the coast. If interested let us know. David dgbedford1127@aol.com

Hi Jeff, I`ll leave on 2016 feb10, Sao Francisco to Panama, via Baja and I´m also looking for a partner.
If you consider to readjust your trip, perhaps we could travel together, I´m Portuguese, 50 yrs old, riding an Honda Africa Twin Best regards |
I am an American that lives in Guanajuato. 2 hours from Guadalajara. I am planning a trip down to Central America as well. I would need to leave about February 15th. I am 47 years old and have done a lot of traveling. I really want to do a more relaxed trip that doesn't involve 500 mile days. Would you be doing a mix of tents and hotels? If you would like to discuss this further my email is lifeofanadventurer@yahoo.com

Mexico to Central America trip planned- Amazing Adventures
I have been working on one of the items that has been on my bucket list. My 2016 Central America Adventure Trip. I am looking for additional riders to join me. It doesn't have to be the whole trip. Meet me somewhere and ride for a week.
I would like to leave approximately Monday, February 15, 2016 from Leon, Guanajuato Mexico. The countries that I plan to visit are Guatamala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Honduras and Belize. I am looking at a 30 to 45 day trip. I am really on no set time frame but don't want to do 500 mile days. I will stay in hotels and in the tent in National Parks and on the beach. I don't want this to be a brutal trip. I will be riding a 2016 Vstrom XT with aluminum panniers and top case. I plan on bringing a tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, hammock and cooking supplies. I also plan on having riding clothes, rain gear and 2 sets of clothes. Some of you guys don't know this but I was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer 2 1/2 years ago and by the grace of God and modern medicine I am in remission. It has been a horrible time but I am thankful that I have learned so much about myself and what is now important to me. It no longer is about the money and saying I will accomplish it someday. Things can change in the blink of an eye!! If this is something that you have always wanted to do, don't put it off. Ask the boss for the time and beg, borrow and steal to make it happen. You can't really can't take it with you and it will have you remembering for the rest of your life all of the memories. I am a 47 year old red blooded American who resides between Mexico. Los Angeles and Phoenix. Please offer suggestions on places to see, where to stay and what to do. Everything is truly appreciated. I am scouring the boards, libraries and internet finding all the information I can. You can also contact me at lifeofanadventurer@yahoo.com. I also have the domain lifeofanadventurer.com and will be putting something up in the next few weeks. Mark |
Hi there, I also plan a trip through Mexico and Central America leaving mid January from Vancouver island. Problem is the weather here isn't nice that time of year so I'll have to wait for a good weather window to make it down the coast. I have a vstrom 650 and am flexible with dates. Don't mind being alone but it would be nice to also have riding buddies! The bike and gear are ready but I don't have an exact route planned. Also I'm not sure if it's worth taking camping gear. Feel free to contact me to discuss your plans.
Cheers! Vincent |

Anyone travelling down a bit later? |
Solo traveler here. Planning to depart from Houston down through central Mexico and onto Guatemala. I'm hoping to leave right after Christmas / early January. Does that fit anyone's travel plans?
New-ish rider here but well traveled overland through Africa. Prefer to go slow, flexible on timing, though I am planning to cover a lot of ground so wouldn't want to be in Mexico *too* long! |
the Foreign and Commonwealth Office lists Mexico and the Central American countries as hugely dangerous for violent crime and kidnapping. Does anyone here have any recent news or experience?

I don't find Latin America to be any more dangerous than anywhere else. Use common sense and you'll probably be fine. I was a victim of crime in my native New York City many more times than I have ever been in Latin America. |
Jeff
I'm leaving first week of Feb from Tennessee, crossing border at Brownsville and traveling to Cancun to catch the Stahlratte boat to Cuba. I'm flexible on departure but need to be in Cancun by March 1 at the latest. I'm 60, will ride a Triumph Scrambler and enjoy a leisurely pace. PM me if you want to talk about potentially traveling together for the first leg of your journey. John |
Canada to Machu Picchu
Quote:
Hello, We will be riding from Calgary, AB, Canada to Machu Picchu next March 2016. We will head south through I-15. It seems to me we can be in touch and eventually ride couple miles together from some point in Mexico or Guatemala. We will take the Panamerican HWY. I will ship our BMW R1200GS in Panama to Bogota by plane or if I can get a sail boat to Cartagena. From there Quito, Machu Picchu, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentine and returning by the Pacific (Chile). We are a couple (58/59), rode over 70.000 Miles last 4 years. We can communicate well in Spanish and Portuguese. Cheers, John & Gle |
Just messed up a reply so I'll do it here. I'm in Manzanillo, I have an R1200GSA and I'll be going somewhere for a while in January. If any of you want to travel around with an old guy who just finished the Silk Road give me a shout.

Mexico in Jan/Feb from CA/AZ
My plans had to change at the last minute but I am looking to reschedule a trip to central and southern Mexico and maybe farther in late January or February. Looking for riding partner. I have been down Baja and across before but could do again, but mainly interested in the mainland Pacific beaches and central sites. I am 57, retired, limited Spanish, experienced rider and riding a K1600. Anyone similar interests please give me a shout!

back north
Anybody planning to drive back north from Panama to the US starting around mid / end of March? If yes I would be interested to join.
Me - Swiss 48 - on KTM 1290. |
Sooscreek, I am leaving from Vancouver island in 2-3 weeks if the weather cooperates. If not I will be looking for a truck or Uhaul down. I plan to explore Central America. Maybe you would like to share a ride south and split the costs? The forecast is not looking good with rain and snow all the way to the mx border.
