I'm leaving on my DR Oct 17th from BC for Mexico and beyond. Trying to get as far as Rio Grande before it gets too cold and take my time on the way back up. Think I'm going to spend a couple of weeks in Guatemala taking spanish lessons so I'm not so useless the rest of the way. If anyone wants to meet up along the way I'm in for some group riding and sharing travel stories. patrickstratis at hotmail dot com

I might be taking you up on this offer!

If all goes to plan I will be down there around middle of Nov.

Where abouts are you? When we rode south of LaPaz in the spring we went down the flats then up and over the mountains to the sand road following the coast to Cabo. Are you before or after the mountain crossing?

Oh ok!

Somewhat familiar with the area. We stopped somewhere along there for lunch on the way north of Cabo. Great little Mexican restaurant. They liked our bikes and that we were from Canada. Took pictures with us, etc. Right hand side of the road when coming into one of those towns.

I'll see how things go. LONG ways to go but if all works out wouldn't mind visiting a fellow CDN in Baja!

More planning to Mexico

I'm narrowing down (is that correct in Englisch ?) my departure to the 4th week in November...
if it's really cold may rent a small Uhaul from Santa Fe NM
maybe to tucson AZ, room for more bikes I think if anyone gets the urge or is too cold here to ride -
-usually that time of year can be frozen here but by the time one gets to Deming even is 15 degrees warmer...
I just dug out my winter riding gloves

There's a place to stop here if needed in SF and great mechanic :innocent:

Heading South

:funmeterno:Am trying to leave Los Angeles in next 2-3 days. Would love to join some other(s) to cross the border at Nogales. If not or in addition, we could meet somewhere farther south, depending on route. My tentative route right now is:
Los Angeles to Nogales to Mazatlan to Durango (Devil's Spine http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...funmeterno.gif). I just hope the tires (not new) will last until Durango so I can put on the tires I'm carrying with me. I assume that you know about the Devil's Curse when riding the Devil's Spine. It makes you (or me at least) faster and faster around those twisty curves, especially with all the heavy/slow trucks.
From Durango to Zacatecas to San Luis Potosi to Guanajuato to Queretero to Teotihuacan to Cuernavaca to Oaxaca to San Cristobal de Las Casas. From here, I don't know if I want to stop at Palenque on the way to Chetumal to Belize to Tikal to Coban in Honduras, going around Tegucigalpa on to Nicaragua, stopping in Leon, but refusing to give in to the multiple demands by cops for fines for mythical infractions and finally arriving in Pura Vida land. I not only want to polish my Spanish enough to teach a course sometime at the U.
I don't mean to sound inflexible and I like to be spontaneous. I got back last year from doing just this trip, Mexico to Ushuaia, and back. I have lived and worked in Costa Rica and Bolivia, and spent time off traveling throughout much of Latin America. Consequently, I don't have many 'must see' places and except for friends/relatives in Costa Rica, and friends in Argentina, I don't HAVE to via any particular route and am totally amenable to following others.

Down to Up...

Gentlemen,

we'll be heading the opposite direction to you all, starting in a couple of days from Santiago and heading across to Brazil then a big loop south before heading all the way back up the east coast. If we could meet up with anyone for a beer, we'd be keen to hear what lays ahead!

Noah, ive sent you a quick email as well.

Cheers.

Mike
