In Mexico on the northeast coast heading to Tierra del Fuago

Hi my name is Rob and I have been putting down some great miles across Canada and down the eastcoast of USA. I am in north eastern Mexico right now and heading down the coastline. I have been traveling quite fast but slowing down now that the temp. is comfortable.

My steed is a Gs 1200 and set up for up to class 2 off roading and been mostly on the pavement so far, but willing to get off the beaten path whrn the oppertunity presents its self.

I was wondering if there is any other lone wolves that might be interested in putting down some miles. Its been great riding and meeting people along the way and it would be great to meet more people with the same passion for motorcycles as I do. I am following the gulf of Mexico right now and going to check out a few sights along the way.

Cheers and happy trails!

Hey Stephan,

I am held up right now just south of Cancun. There is a huricane warning for Thursday/Friday so I am going to hold up here until it passes. I am going to head south for Belize from here and stay put for a few days when I find a sunny beach. Keep in touch and maybe we can do some miles.

Mexico to Guatemala

Hey Rob,

I'm in San Cristobal de Las Casas, Mexico and heading to Guatemala in a day or two. It looks like were on separate coastal routes at the moment. I hope to be in Antigua, Guatemala over Nov 2nd if you're in the neighborhood. Only thing is that I ride a DR650 and like to go slow 60. Also like to stay in a place for a few days then move on. If this matches your style drop me a pm.

Have a great ride.

Heading South

I'm still in Los Angeles, but hope to leave in 2-3 days and would love to meet others, especially if going to Belize, then on to Tikal. I met a rider in Panama last year as I was returning from Ushuaia, Argentina who had been robbed twice in Guatemala with guns. I didn't have any trouble on my way down, nor after that meeting, on the way back north, but I stayed on the coast route both times.

If I return to Tikal from Belize, I'd love to be with others going back down through Guatemala. I'm thinking about either going back through Coban, Guatemala, or alternativley, going to Copan, Honduras and then through Honduras to Nicaragua. I heard of a way that bypasses Tegucigalpa.

Hey motomon,

I went through GuatemalaThursday and Friday. Checked out Tekal and stayed in Fores and hour away. It was a cool little town on an island but the town on the other side wasn't anything special. I didn't have any problems in Guatemala except that my bank card didn't want to work. Eight banks latter and all was good. I went over to the west coast missed the turn off for El Salvador and ended up in Honduras. Some really cool windy roads through the mountains over there if you like hair pins and unfortunatlly pothole with them but the views were cool.

I am just chilling in a town called El Gigante Nicarugua for a few days and then down to Costa Rica. I am going to travel slower for a few days. If you are around let me know and we can tip a few

Cheers Rob

You are way ahead of me now. I hope to leave in next 2-3 days, but it will take me a good week to get through Mexico, even with only stopping briefly at a few places like Tiahuacan and San Cristobal de las Casas. If I go over to Chetumal and then down to Belize and down to Tikal and stay at Flores, it will take another week. I can and do ride hard and long, but I can't see how I can catch up with you, unless you stay awhile in Costa Rica.
Since I have friends and relatives in Santo Domingo and Heredia from when I worked there, I'll spend a 7-10 days in CR. I'm considering returning to work on my Spanish at the school where I first got serious about learning Spanish. I am amazed that the school owner remembers me from classes that I took with him over thirty years. I suspect he still chuckles about some of my antics and my ineptitude with Spanish. I still like that they sometimes use the phrase, ''Voy a cambiar el agua al pajarito!'' I particularly like the response to Gracias is Con Mucho Gusto! rather than the common, "De nada."
