Hi Steve,
which ferry company quoted £200.00 I tried P&O and Brittany one was £308 and the other was £330.00 that included the cheapest inside cabin?
Did any body manage to get an answer from Billy Bike Truck as I see his web page was down today?

Not heard back from Billy yet no.

Mel, it was brittany ferries, but without a cabin - which is an extra £100. I did say I wanted to do it as cheap as possible :)

I didn't know you could book the long crossing without a cabin i thought as you progressed with the booking process they made it mandatory. I'm all for doing it as cheap as poss.

Mel, I was able to just select a reclining seat for this journey. Its not as nice as having your own cabin, but for one night i think it would be ok, and is £100 cheaper.

I've just received my copy of Morocco Overland, which is due to be published 30 July 2009. The first 100 pages are general advice about preparations (some of which is similar to Sahara Overland) and Morocco in general. The remaining 170 pages are details of 49 specific routes, most of which have been checked within the last 18 months.

Me and a friend are off to Morocco in October... Plymouth-Santander on 5th, crossing into Morocco on 6th or 7th, depending how we get on.
I went last year with Moto-Morocco and had a great time, but there were 16 of us in the group, which is not really my thing.
If you want to meet up and have a beer and a chat sometime, I'm only down the road from you... there are lots of good campsites in the Peak district, with nearby hostelries :biggrin:
We may be able to meet up over there, depending on when you're going.

I've just heard from Billy the bike truck guy, who says he needs 15 or so bikes to lay a run on, so if we can drum up some more interest we might be lucky!

Hmm i see, i really like the idea of the bike truck but realistically i don't think the bike truck will happen in Oct now if Billy needs say 10 more people to do the trip.

The longer we hold of buying ferry tickets the more its going to cost.

I've looked at the thread a couple of times and I thought I could but I can't resist getting interested is the venture. Are you still looking for more people?
I made a trip to Morocco in early may, three of us drove from Calais non stop in a van to Almeria (2300km) leaving the van there, then took the overnight boat to melilla/nador. The time was very limited as the organiser had to be back at work in 2 weeks. It was a full on piste riding experience down to erg chebbii/merzouga and on to tagounite and zagora. I was riding a Suzuki DRZ400 which was ok unless you wanted more power, the organiser favouring a modified DR800! I tried to take minimum luggage but was still overloaded. Had to carry extra fuel in a plastic can which worked fine. I really struggled to find a bigger tank. The third guy was riding a XR400, fine if travelling light with small throw over panniers. I've now got a yam XT660R as well which should be better for riding to morocco.

Sure we're still interested in another rider. Five would be the most I think, and it'd be four if you and Mel both come along.

Firm dates are Sept 30th from the UK, to be back here by October 25th.

Right now StevieB and I have decided to spend the next week looking for alternatives to the ferry (to Santander) and if nothing turns up then we'll book the tickets on August 3rd.

The plan is simply to head south to the Mountain region, and spend some time riding the trails. None of us have much (any) experience, so it won't be crazy stuff. We'll then take a few days to ride back North and see the sights we missed on the way down.:thumbup1:

Yes.. tickets booked a few weeks ago. I'm doing Plymouth-Santander, with a reclining seat, on Sun 4th October (£90), and riding back through France for a Cherbourg-Portsmouth fast ferry crossing on 24th October (£62).
It would be good to meet up over there... I know some really good pistes from last year... and I'm on a 1200GS Adventure. The plan to ride down to the south and "explore" back north is pretty much what I have in mind... and looking at Chris Scott's latest book, there's lots to do :mchappy:

been watching this thread and would love to join up. if any room left,but would have to be back in uk by 16 oct [niece,s wedding] what ya think..

hi all, theres three off us leaving scotland for morocco on the 3rd off october, hopefully be there for 6-7th , so if any off you guys are about could meet for a beer or ride together for a day maybe , were pretty much easy as to the route we are taking, looking to be a 2 and a half week trip for us.
