Newcastle UK - Nordkapp May/June 2014
Hi everyone,
In May and June of 2014 I'm riding from my home town of Newcastle in the UK to Nordkapp, Norway. I'm doing this run in aid of charity Cerebra who help support brain injured children and their families in the UK. Cerebra are close to my heart as they have helped my little brother Robbie since he suffered a brain injury when he was 9 months old 15 years ago. I'm making this journey a challenge by riding the 6,000 is miles in less than 3 weeks (due to work commitments) but I'm also making a documentary of my trip to take back home to show other my adevnture. I tried the trip back in 2011 but I had a crash near Ornskoldsvik, Sweden which ended my hopes of making it to the Nordkapp. I'm posting here as I'm keen to meet up with other bikers along the way to chat to, ride with, and help with the filming of my documentary. Please comment and get in touch if you can give any advice, or would like to meet up along the way. My website has lots more information including my route. I look forward to chatting to you. Thanks. Hi Gordon
I'm planning on being in Norway in summer 2014. Not sure of exact dates at present but most likely late June/early July. I'm just down the road from you in Sunderland. More than happy to meet up or help with your documentary if we are in the same vicinity at the same time. Dave |
I will be doing the same trip in the same amount of time, not for charity, just for fun..
Camping all the way to save on expensive hotel costs.. Ill be going from Liverpool.. Ill check this thread closer to the time :) |
We will do also trip to Nordkapp however via Murmansk Russia and back via Norway - during summer holiday 2014.

I start the 2nd of May from Berlin to Nordkapp!
(I'm in Newcastle in the first/secondo week of April) |
hi, am thinking about heading up there around the same time, but it looks to be pretty cold at Nordkapp in early May. You think the roads will be clear, etc?
|
Early May in northern Norway is in general too early for normal motorbiking. You may risk snow and ice on the roads and freesing cold conditions.
Although this winter has been mild and not with very much snow so far. I recommend that you wait until the later half of May at least..... |
Thanks Snakeboy, that's what I suspected.

May/June to Norway (and the rest in Europe)

Would be great to meet up with other riders. We are fun but cautious on the road as not wanting tickets to spoil the holiday etc. Feel free to PM |
I am going in June/July from South of Norway hugging the coastline and including the roads to ride in Norway on my way up, then I was considering to cross into Russia (if Politics don't screw it up) via Murmansk, down to St. Petersburg out to Finland, ferry to Sweden and back it's about 6000 km ride, but for UK bikers it would be added to the ride t/r Norway.
May can still be freezing night temperatures in Norway especially in the mountains, so if you go early May beware of that. If you sleep in tent a 3 season bag is a good idea to avoid freezing at night.:freezing: |
I am also going to Murmansk via Nordkapp and then via Finland to St Petersberg through the Baltic States and back to Rotterdam. I arrive in Brevik on the 2nd June and hope to be at Nordkapp on the 19th, Murmansk on the 22nd and St petersberg on 29th June. My route through Norway will be to Bergen, Geiranger and up the west coast on Hwy 17, camping most of the way. Would be good to meet up along the way if our routes coincide.

If someone heading for Oslo or passing Oslo I have a spare bedroom in my flat although not big or luxurious - for a fellow biker, and secure bike parking area in the basement....
