Nordkapp June 2008 from Perthshire
 

I am heading down to Newcastle on the 3rd June, getting ferry to Stavanger arr next day (4th June) I have no plans and no return ferry booked, (wife knows) I want to ride my 1200 gs Adventure to the top of Norway, via Lofoten Islands. Is there any other people heading this way in June. I will take my tent etc but will look for cheap B&B etc 1st. I have biked in Europe in the past, Austria,France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Potugal also some biking in B C Canada back in 1999.

Tourman, that'll be a nice trip. If in the "unlikely" event it should rain you'll be able to stay in the cabins that are on most campsites. Of course if it's raining they go quite quick so stop early. On previous trips I've had 5 or 6 nights in cabins and the rest in the tent. The problem is once you've tasted cabin life you don't want to go back to the tent! They cost about £30-£40 a night. They have heaters in to dry off your gear too. Have fun. Try some gravel roads whilst your there too.

hey Tourman, since i`m going to the far North just a month after you do, i`l be expecting some infos and pics from your trip, and of course some advise of how survive in the cruel nature of Norway`s expensive everyday life ;)

hi tourman l,m riding though norway from Stavanger on the 1st june to nordkapp then on to russia through finland, should be easy to spot me up there as l,m on a honda XR650R :laugh:

Make sure your tyres are new because we only just made it there and back on a set of Tourance we were 2 up and loaded, we went June July and there was still lots of snow and it was very cold in the mountains had heated jackets on for about 50% of trip also had a lot of rain, we are usually are out on the beer every night on trips only had 1 hangover in 3 weeks and an empty wallet but had a great time got free accomodation at Hardstad at a bike club and first night off the ferry from a Swedish couple but had to ride 450 mile in torrential rain for most of the way

Norway & Nordkapp
 

Just got back, reached Nordkapp on Sunday 8th June. The weather was great for 3-4 days but it was very cold with snow when we reached Nordkapp. This was the best trip I have done, Norway has it all, some of this country reminds me of Canada. We did as much wild camping as possible but also used huts when it was cold. We also went to Kirkenes, right up to the Russian border, then we headed down through Finland. We cut across Sweden heading for Bodo. I will be back, yes it is an expensive country but if you camp and take as much food as possible, you can do this trip on a tight budget. I have some great pics from this trip.

Glad to hear you had a great trip. Not many find snow in June that charming, especially when venturing on two wheels far from home, but to you it seems it only added to the total experience. Welcome back another year!
