North Africa west-to-east and Arabia
Starting Jan 2010, I'll be traversing the Sahara west to east and doing a loop of the Arabian peninsula and back into Africa afterwards.
Any adventurers/overlanders wanting to hop along for a part of the stretch are very welcome. Total time is around 6 months. I'll be travelling on a KTM 640. The exact route will need to be flexible depending on the current situation in each country. All part of the fun. Possible route: Holland down to Marocco - Mauritania - Mali - Algeria - probably Tunisia - Lybia - Egypt - Jordan - Saudi - UAE - Oman - Yemen - Djibouti - Ethiopia - Kenya - Tanzania. I would love to get through Lybia coming from the south. Who knows. Pieter |
stop it!
really, your making me very jealous pieter! sounds like a great trip. id love to do north africa next year, but probably on a bicycle. the one thing i would check though, although you proably know, borders are funny in those parts. last i heard was the western sahara area wasnt accessible and heavilly land mined and algeria is a bit of a pain to get into. also you need guides for algeria and libya i think. check on saharaoverland.com or lonely planet.
best of luck! :thumbup1: |
Thanks for the advice devildiver, I will definitely have to keep well informed on the area's I'm planning to ride through.
Last time I was stuck at the Sudan border for 2 weeks! Cheers, Pieter |
