R t w 2013/14
Looking to do a RTW trip in 2013/14 heading west from the UK .
I have friends in New York State and will start by shipping my bike there and then head west to Alaska and then cross over into Russia and then keep going until I reach my home town of Bristol in the UK . I have done a 3 month trip in South America and looking for a buddy who has done something similar . Im looking to do the trip in about 3/4 months ,I have no set itinery as yet but if anybody is interested then please get in touch . |
Hi Kiraboo
I'm sort of planning similar. I intend to camp out most nights, ride an XT660Z Tenere and not touch the main roads really, some off piste jaunts etc. I live 45 mins South of Bristol. I've not done any long distance stuff yet really, but next year am trekking down the Pyrenees and over to Morocco. I'm ex-Army and can usually turn my hands to most things. Are you doing via main roads I take it, if doing it over 3/4 months? Cheers Harty |
Hi there ,the route will be main road-ish through the States and Alaska but once into Russia don't expect to see much tarmac until you reach eastern Europe .
Have you ridden much off road and your XT is it an early model or the most recent ? |
Done plenty of off roading with camping gear. I tend not to ride much on the main roads, just lanes and greenlanes! I've heard of a trail that goes from East USA to the West, which is one of the old routes the pioneers used, it's basically all off road and links up with towns in-between. See the real US and meet some great local folk on route hopefully! Ah yes, new XT!
Cheers Harty |
Hi Kiraboo
Me and my pal Mark did East to West from UK - shipped to Baltimore then Seattle to Vladivostok - northern hemisphere only. You can get some info from my blog http://strimstrum.blogspot.com Have fun - we certainly did Martin |

Hi Harty ,
sorry I haven't got back to you but do you wish to stay in contact via email so as to establish a raport . If there is a possibility we will travel together then perhaps we should arrange a meet up . I'm currently rebuilding a Suzuki DR 350 for the trip but I do have a BMW K100C which I use for touring Europe with my wife so we could perhaps arrange a ride out when the weather improves , Cheers Kiraboo . |
Me and the wife are planning an extended trip starting in 2013 (august is our current leaving date).
We are also bristol based and if you wish to share info if it would be useful to you. Our plans are different to yours as we intend to head to australia via india and south east aisa, then north through the americas and then back accross russia, mongolia and the stans. |
Are girls invited?
I've recently converted from years of HD ridng to a new dual sport bike. Live in the US and want to do a RTW and like the shorter timeline. Will work hard and keep up, I promise. Glad you found the TransAmTrails site. Great for two lane roads but there are lots of other great nes and some great highlights they've missed in the States depending on time allowed.

Hi There ,
" are girls aloud " of course as long as we all have the same goal and that is to have fun and to be adventerous . Have you done any off roading before ? |
Long way off but interested
Did RTW going east with KUDU in 2009 but would love to do it again especially with a smaller group which can be more flexible. Based in the midlands near Leicester.
Any thoughts on post Vladivostock route? |
