Riders wanted: Murmansk January 2018
Hello, crazy winter drivers!
I am planning to travel from southwest germany to Murmansk, Russia in January 2018. Starting December 18th, five weeks. The plan is to cross the russian border in Latvia, going up to St. Petersburg (with some sightseeing) and then straight northbound to Murmansk. Back over norway. If you like to travel with me and my girlfriend please message me. If you have some experiences about travelling this route, I would like to hear about! best regards, Michael (karalus@eisarsch.org) |
Murmansk Trip.
Hello Michael,
I travelled around the Sea of Bothnia (Anti clockwise) 4 years ago with my wife in a 6.54 metre Motorhome from Sheffield. U.K. Entered Russia at Narva Border to St Petes. Then due North up the Arctic Highway to Murmansk via a side trip to Khizi Island Church. Visited the Nuclear Icebreaker (Lenin) on the River. Departed at Kirkenes and onto the Nordkapp. Walked 6k or so to the REAL North Cape and not the commercial Shop and Relax Car Park they would have you think was "The North Cape" ( I think the outrageous car parking payment has now ceased) " I believe". The full coastline of Norway, Sweden & the full coastline of the Denmark Islands. Any Info required, ill try and help. John Batty |
Murmansk
Hello Michael,
sounds interesting, I have not been to Murmansk and riding there in winter would add to the experience .... but I dont think I will be in Europe in Jan. 2018, but who knows? are you guys riding only with sidecars? as I would ride (or try to ...) without sidecar. Paca mika |
Hi Mika,
yes, my gf and me will do this trip with a sidecar (By now: HU BMW 1100 Voyager, but this is not sure by now). In scandinavia I saw ppl riding with two wheels in winter, using enormous spikes - but i'm not sure, how far you can get there with all the luggage you'll need (for emergency camping etc.). If you like to take that risk you are welcome - we'll take care. Cheers, Michael |
Trip canceled!
Hey all, due to various reasons I cancel this trip - just for the next year :oops2: Technical difficulties, health issues, other stuff...
Maybe I will go for Murmansk a year later, hopefully with a bunch of other travellers. If you are interested: Message me! Regards, Michael |
