Riding buddy through centrel america

Hi Guys
I am a 31 year old Aussie riding a KLR. I previously road from the US down through Mexico over a four month period. I have stored my bike near the boarder for the last 5 months and returned to work for a while and now I am getting back on it. I plan on crossing the Mexican/Guatemalan border at Tapachula around the 26th of November heading south. I have no real time frame or itinerary, just take each day as it comes and go where ever looks good. If anyone is around that way and would like to hook up for a bit you would be more than welcome as it is so much more fun riding with someone. Drop me a line if anyone is interested. I have a bit of knowledge of Guatemala as I lived there for a few months about a year ago but nothing further.

Hey Dan,
I am riding down mexico from houston on Dec 7th or so. I wasn't planning on going down guatemala ... i am mostly going down where there is good diving (belize ... honduras ...) but to be honest I am a bit skeptical about it all.

Can I email you with a couple of questions about your experience in mexico?

dan78 23 Nov 2009 03:01

Of course you can, if I can help in anyway I would be more than happy too!

Hey Dan
Im in Puerto Angel Mexico. I teamed up with Fastfreddy 2 or three days ago around Tampico. I took 3 months off work and my plan is to get as far south as I can in that amount of time. It sounds like youre a little bit ahead of us but if it works out Id love to hook up down the road and put some miles on with you. This is my first time using the site (under Fastfreddys guidance) so Ill check back whenever I can.

Hi Guys
Well, it looks like I have been delayed for about 2 weeks so maybe we can hook up after all, I'll keep you posted

Hi Guys
I am leaving Mexico and plan to arrive in Antigua on Dec 8th. I will be around there for about week or so, and then will most likely be heading on to El Salvador but as you know on the road plans change. Just though I would post my plans and see if anyone was around then and wanted to hook up for a bit. I'll keep you posted.

I'm in Uvita Costa Rica for awhile

Great riding as usual
motorcycle friendly Rancho DiAndrew in Uvita, camping, cabinas, food, fun blah blah blah.....
Surfboard rentals, lessons, waterfall trips...and cheap (for Costa Rica) also does friggin wild trips into Osa Peninsula
Great place to stop before the Paso Canoas crossing.

Zig

1km north of Uvita look for sign Rancho DiAndrew on left...4km up a hairy dirt road, small sign on left,

Very Secure Parking

insurance ...

What are you folks doing about insurance. I read on the other thread that the cheapest way is to buy insurance on the border ... I wonder how much it costs to do so as of 2009 ...

Thanks.

Hi Guys
Just an update. I have been in El Salvador for the last couple of weeks and it is an amazing place, loved every minute of it. I bought a surfboard and had a guy make me a rack so I can mount it to the side of my bike and ride it to South America. It rides well and the wind is no problem so if there is anyone else who likes to surf I can recogmend a place to get it done in El Salvador but I am sure any welder could do it, it only cost me $30. I plan to cross though Honduras into Nicaragua tomorrow or the next day. If anyone is around that area give me a shout

Nicaragua

Hey dan im in San Juan Del Sur, are you around?

dan78 24 Jan 2010 19:26

Hey Guys
The surf on the west has not been good of late. It's the wrong season but there is meant to be some swell coming in the next few days. I am in San Juan Del Sur Nicaragua at the moment and probably heading into Costa Rica tomorrow if anyone is still here and wants to hook up for a ride or a beer I am staying at Rebecca Inn but will be leaving tomorrow. Does anyone know of Bike storage in Panama or Columbia and what needs to be done to store it there for about 8 months?
