Hi,
I'm planning a round the world trip starting Jan 1st 2009 leaving from Portsmouth UK. I've got no time restrictions so schedule, apart from the departure date is flexible. Intended route is to ride thru France with a stop at my house in the Dordogne to see friends then on to Algeciras to Morocco. Riding through Mauritania, Mali, Burkina Faso, Benin, Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon, Congo, Angola, Namibia and into South Africa. Shipping out from Cape Town or Jo'Burg to Buenos Aries. No set route through South/Central America and US/Canada but hoping to do as much as possible. Ship out from Alaska to New Zealand then on to Australia. Final shipping to Bangkok, still to decide which way to come home, if we must!!. Anybody done this or already planning the same? Would be glad to swap/receive any Info. I've only just started planning so not much info at the moment. I've done quite a bit of riding round Europe but nothing as adventurous as this, so the planning is a bit daunting, how much can you/do you need to plan in advance?

I posted “Singapore to India for late 2009" just the other day but am finding the route –being (the problematic way thru and around Burma from Thailand to India) an obstacle as well as the travel of east to west which to some like walking on the wrong side of the road & which of course some do ;) … (attempt at humor). Keep me in list … I may entertain a different route or may be in the same vicinity same time – meaning Bangkok. The route west has you either going thru Burma which I keep hearing next to impossible or China a tad expensive needing a guide. Love to hear about any plans – changes - what you've learned etc you’ve made since your post.

Myself and my fiance are also starting our RTW in april 2009 we will be leaving from Dubai and through Iran, europe down into morocco then over to north america then down. We have started planning our route and looking at what visa's we need and getting the ground work sorted out now. This site is a great place to start planning what you need to take and more importantly what you don't need to take.

I am also planning a rtw most probably August 2009. I'll start from Istanbul, Turkiye then by the Mediteranian cost (Greece-ferry to Italy-France-Spain) then to Morocco, down to Mauritania-Mali-Niger-Nigeria-Cameroon-Central African Rebuplic-DCR-Uganda-Kenya-Tanzania-Mozambique-South Africa- Ship to Sau Paolu or Buones Aires-Antartica-Back to Argentina- then heading north by following the pasific coast to USA. From LA ship the bike to AU then to Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand-Burma-India-Banglades-India-Nepal-Pakistan-Iran and finaly back to Turkiye.

I am working out about the route and finance now. hope i can find some sponsors.

Until now I have done all the Europa route and now I am planning the Africa route.

I'll send posts if i come across with something interesting.
