RTW 2012/13. Join In The Fun

I'm going RTW on 28/07/12 starting with an easy section to Greece where I'll stay till late September as I have to fly back for a mates wedding. On my return I'll be going though Turkey, Iran, Emirates, India, South Asia, probably Australia / New Zealand and then South America and probably North.

If anyone would like to join me on any part of the tour you'd be more than welcome. I'm pretty chilled out, can't stand arguing and doing it for nothing more than fun. As long as you don't stress easily and have the right frame of mind we'll get along fine.

I'm on a pretty tight budget so will be camping, hosteling & cooking on the go (it's more fun anyway). I'm riding a Honda PCX Scooter so punny bikes are welcome. You can see most the details on my website:

Andrew Charnley

Please get in touch if you'd like to meet up, do a stretch, or anything related. The more social the trip the better it'll be. :thumbup1:

Paperwork for UK citizens: you'd need a Carnet (and the RAC are utter slow) and two Visas (Iran & India) which are pretty straight forward to get.

Cheers, Andrew

Best of luck with your trip. Sadly I'm otherwise engaged until well into the the tail end of the year otherwise this might have been a blast.

Interesting website; how much did you sell your diesel Enfield for? Wish I'd seen it advertised. Grrr :(Are there many diesel bikes about for sale?

Hey Andrew.. I'm heading to Asia, hopefully to a job in Cebu in the new year. I have a crap load still to organise and I'm working like a pig right now raising funds, looking to leave in September. I could do with another couple of months to prep/save, but I've been warned Eastern Turkey gets hit with crazy snow late Sept onwards, so winter is inflicting a wee deadline ha. Expect I'll have to blast through a lot of Europe and then take off the brakes once through Turkey. I'll be leaving later than you, but may catch up at some stage.

Cool, I'm leaving Greece for Turkey late September and will probably be at the Iranian border around mid October.

You had any joy with your Carnet? I'm having big contact/delay issues with the RAC.

Possible beers en route :)

Hey Andrew - just pinger you a message through your website.

I'm doing a route that kind of crosses over in parts so maybe we can grab a beer en route. Am confirming intended route currently and looking at setting off mid August. Rough route currently is Europe (France, Belgium, Germany, Austria), Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia Herzegovina, Serbia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Malasia, Indonesia, Australia (maybe NZ).

Have concerns re the Baluchistan area of Iran/Pakistan border so will assess how it is when I get there and then make a judgement call as to whether to alter the route to avoid that area. Will certainly be in touch once I know exact route and timings - as you say, it's much more fun when it's social so would be good to grab a beer and share info along the way!

Hope the journey is going well so far!! :)

Matt

Iran Visa

Also, I assume you're going to apply for your Iran visa in Istanbul?

snoopy 19 Aug 2012 16:11

Hi, sorry for my delay - I'm applying over here (I'll use an Agent to do the paperwork) then pick it up in Istanbul. I thought you had to have someone send an invite in order to get one.

Regarding Pakistan, I had planned to go to Dubai and ship/fly the bike to India. I see you can get a transit visa for £57 from the embassy but that was back in 2007, I'll have to find out if its still going?

Turkey Entry

Sorry Snoopy, can't PM to your message as I've not had 5 posts on the site apparently.

Am in Switzerland at the moment having just done a few repairs to my chain and sporckets - heading through Italy, Slovenia etc from tomorrow so reckon I'll be in Istanbul in about 10 days and will bimble around there for a while waiting for Iranian visa.

Let me know if you change your mind about Pakistan and either we can ride together ro I can give you the latest on what it's like.
