Rtw from Ireland 2005 (going east)
Hi There,
I hope to travel from Ireland to Vladivostok starting in June 2005. From there I intend to ship my bike to Japan sometime in mid July and then fly on to Alaska or Canada depending on what can be organised in Japan. Altogether this will take about two months and after that I will more than likely leave my bike with friends in Canada and fly back home. My intention is to return the following year to Canada and take up the trip again in order to (eventually)complete a RTW trip. Year II will more than likely consist of a couple of months touring North America and Year III then will be a spin down the Pan American Highway to South America after that I'm open to suggestions. The bike i will be using will be a Honda Pan European - so it will be sealed roads as much as possible. The itinary through Europe and Asia is (roughly) through France, Swizerland, Austria, Poland, Belarus, Russia (over the Urals) Perm, Yakatrinsburg, Novosibersk, Irkutsk, Vladivostok ....then, Japan, Alaska & Canada as far as Vancouver. So if there is anyone out there from this part of Europe or enroute who has always fancied a trip going east please let me know - it would be great to have some company. Regards, Laurence |
Hi Laurence,
I am planning Uk to Vlad leaving as early as the weather window will allow ( late May). I tried to mail you off the board but it got bounced back. Mail me can you?. Jimmy |
Hi Jimmy,
Great to hear from you. I sent you an email and it got bounced as well!! The best bet might be to click on the email link and try me again. I made an adjustment that should work OK. Regards, Laurence [This message has been edited by Laurence (edited 01 January 2005).] |

Hi Lars,
Happy New Year! As regards the trip. I work as a teacher and intend to spend the next few summers stringing together a RTW trip. The earliest I can leave Ireland is about the 3rd or 4th of June and it would be great to have some company. Maybe we can meet enroute? I believe that the Magadan - Anchorage plane is no longer an option for ordinary travellers. I know that a few months ago Ewan Mc Greggar and Charlie Boorman did this flight but your talkin big bucks there. I watched the video of him going up to Magadan and he ended up putting the bike on the back of a truck in order to make it through. There were also about six guys of a backup team in assorted vehicles helping him out..... Back to the real world. I was intending to do a more road orientated trip accross Russia - hence the Pan European. I believe that tarred roads finish at Chita so I would get on the train there for two days and nights and get off at Kharbarosk from there its only about 700 Klms to Vladivostok. I believe it is possible to fly from Japan to Alaska (check out http://www.hawaiianvacations.com/)but I'm not sure about that right now. I looked at your web page - excellent, but unfortunely I can't understand German! What kind of bike are you going to take with you? Regards, Laurence |
