In san diego - crossing over to mexico and heading south in the next couple of days

The girlfriend and I are just north of the Mexico-USA border and will be crossing it sometime over the next week or so.
Our plan is to go down baja and take the la paz ferry to mainland and keep going south but we're flexible.
Is anybody in the area taking a similar route ? Hit me up, we'd love to have some company.

Cheers

Can't accompany you this time--sure wish I could.

I'm in San Diego, though, in case you need anything while you're in town; feel free to PM me if I can help you in any way.

I ride Baja often enough and have some local info if you need it.

Be safe.

Danny

Paul - I arrived in San Diego yesterday and am planning on heading down through Baja and taking the ferry from La Paz to Mazatlan as well. The overall goal is Tierra Del Fuego and I'm flexible too. My riding mate bailed and I'm on my own so would love being able to join up with you guys wherever we overlap.

EDIT: Apparently I can't send PM's until I have 5 posts due to anti-spam measures. Feel free to text or call my US # 716-986-2658

Paul SC and NomadicOne
I made the trip down the Baja in May 2013 and took the ferry to Mazatlan, then travelled down the coast, across the mountains to San Miguel de Allende and on to Mexico City. You probably know this but be sure to stop in Tiajuana or wherever you cross the border and get the visa and the bike papers. You must have them to board the ferry, and you can't get them in La Paz. And get a room on the ferry, it's worth the extra expense.
I left my bike in Mexico City in early June and flew home to take care of business over the summer. My return flight to MC is Sept. 25. I will head south to Oaxaca and then across the border and through Central America. I have traveled alone so far but am looking for riding buddies for the next leg. This may be the wrong time frame for you but if not or if you run into anyone on a similar schedule, I would like to join up. I am flexible as to dates and itinerary.

Vehicle Permit for Mexico

You can get the permit in La Paz at the ferry terminal which is about 9 miles south of the town on the coast road. Once you enter the main building area it is on the far right. The lady spoke excellent English and it was a quick process.

I suggest you get this at least the day before you get the ferry. Also, the English part of the Baja Ferries web site is faulty and states their is no space on any crossing. Phone if you can.

This may be a misnomer: Which permit can you get in La Paz?

Without the vehicle importation permit AND the tourist visa, you cannot board the ferry in La Paz.

You'll read plenty of hard luck stories about this from other riders.

As I understand it, we may only get one permit in La Paz--the tourist visa. The closest location for the vehicle importation paperwork is on the border. Many riders have had to return to Tecate or TJ to get the paperwork they've missed at the border.

Please correct me if this is wrong.

Vehicle Permit for Mexico

I bought my vehicle permit in La Paz, Baja about 19 days ago (time flies see below) and apart from the US borders it is the only place you can get it. As I stated, the young lady was very helpful and it took about 30 minutes.

Hope this helps.

Again, which "permit" did you get in La Paz?

Quest 5 Sep 2013 05:32

The TVIP........temp vehicle import permit. I obtained the my Visa at Tecate !

I believe the TVIP is the permit you are referring to ??
