Seattle => South America: August 2011 - August 2012
Hi folks:
My name is David Parkinson, and I'm 27, and headed to South America for one year from Seattle, WA, leaving this August. Would definitely like to meet up with people for the Mexico / Latin America / remote parts of South America and potentially a travel mate for my year trip. Looking to do adventure on and off the bike: surfing, kite surfing, trekking, cooking classes, learning tango, etc. Planning on camping, hostelling, and hotels. I have a '05 V-Strom 650 that I'm getting geared up right now. I have a basic command of Spanish but I'm improving it. Also pretty good camping/outdoors skills having climbed Mt. Rainier last year. |
Hey man
A buddy and I are planning on leaving the Seattle area around Aug. or so to head down to MX. We are both from the east coast. If we stay in contact maybe we can plan to ride together. We don't have an exact date nailed down yet. I'm doing the TAT and he has to graduate in Aug. and make it from DC to Seattle first. haha. |

Texas to Torres
Hey David,
I'm planning to travel from Texas to S.A. in September on a Suzuki DR650. Let's keep in touch and we'll see if we can meet up. I travel, camp and speak Spanish. Don't have an itenerary except for a few notible sites and festivals I want to see. Troy |
Hi David (and others on thread)
I also live in Seattle and planning to head south for a year. I'm also planning another year on the other side of Earth. My current plans are to Leave August 25th-ish so that I can do Burning Man on the Way South. I just checked out your Facebook page and realized that we're both friends with Arne Svendsen (small world). Talk to you soon! Cheers, Aaron |
Might meet up in South America
Hi David,
We might catch up in South America. Will be arriving from Australia in Chile mid October. We plan to be in Tierra del Fuego for Christmas. We will be meeting up with Bernd and Heidi on their KTM's who are on the road heading across Russia right now. We are starting a RTW tour this time (did London to Melbourne in 03-04). Bernd and Heid are old friends we met in Iran and and travelled with at various times, then put them up when they came to our part of the world. I'm a bit old for the surfing/kite flying thing (being over twice your age!) but enjoy good company and fellow world bike travellers. We are on a red '08 1200GSA. Hope to see you on the road late '11 or eary '12 as we head North. Brian & Shirl:scooter: |
Hey amigo
My friend Tom and I left home (Lake Stevens/Everett), this past April, and are now currently in Nicaragua.
I too happen to be a 6´6´´ eagle scout, who is no longer aspiring, but now, doing! Keep it real man, and feel free to contact me here via the hubb or whatnot. --Alex |
My trip will be starting exactly when yours is ending. I'll tell you what, when I'm heading south I'll wave when I go past you
I wish I was going this year as well and I hope you have an excellent trip!!!!!:scooter: |

Arrive in S.A. sometime in November
I will be entering Mexico in the middle of September, the main idea is to be on the South American continent in the month of November so to have enough time to make it to Ushusia and back to Columbia in order to catch sailboat back to Panama by May.
I have rode to Panama before so main emphasis is on south America but can do stops in C.A. as long as arriving in S.A. by November, last time it only took me one month to get to Panama. (so I guess if someone is entering Mexico as late as mid Oct and just plans on going straight to Panama then we could travel together ) Anybody have sorta similar plans ! I have an equipped KLR and I guess I will take full camping gear. I am 64 in good shape and get along with almost everybody. Glenn |

I was wondering if you are still on target for an August 25th departure? When are you crossing into Mexico? I'm heading south in early September from Austin, Texas. I'm 44, fit, experienced traveler in Latin America, speak Spanish and riding a DR650. I'm interested in riding with like minded folks for some or all the way. I have a plan, but not an itenerary. The plan is to take my time. If anyone is heading the same way about the same time, I'd be interested in talking. I've started a website that has my loose plan and gear list. I'd love to hear your feedback on the packing list. THE ADVENTURE BEGINS. Troy |
