Sharing a container to skip the Darien Gap?
Hello, bikers!
My husband and I are looking for 2 or 3 people who are planning to cross from Panama to Colombia by the end of this month (March) with the container service. We have a small car and, according to a biker we met in Antigua (thanks, Moritz!), we might be able to fit 2 or 3 motorcycles in the container with our Suzuki SX4. We don't have an exact day to get to Panama yet, but we would like to be driving in Colombia by the beginning of April. We have very little concrete information about the container process, we will be learning as we approach it. Please let me know if you are interested in sharing the costs and the experience with us. I just registered here at HU, so I am learning how it works. You can reach me at chriskokubo@gmail.com. Thank you, happy riding! Christiane Kokubo Through The Americas |

Hello. I searched the 'Shipments by Travellers' database and was unable to find any recent entries for crossing the Darian Gap, especially via container. I executed several searches without any luck. If you don't mind sharing, would you please post the size of the container, freight company and approximate total cost, including origination port and termination port fees. It would be nice to have relatively current costs for shipping a container across the gap. I am guessing you may have used a 25 foot or 10 meter containter? Did you find convenient tie downs for your motorcycle? I know you are busy touring. Please reply at your convenience or consider posting to the database. Thank you Octopusenvy! |
