South America - Late 2006
Im 25yr old male planning a trip in late 2006 to visit as much as South America as possible. Its only my second trip (first around europe) but im very able with bikes and a trained motorcycle mechanic,IT technicain and soon to be good spanish speaker. Ill do it alone if i have to but wouldnt mind some like-minded company even if just half the way.
Nothing is planned just yet so open to ideas, suggestions, routes etc. I have no limits of time and would even maybe like to pick up work on the way round.. who knows. [This message has been edited by tedmagnum (edited 22 July 2005).] |
Hi, thought to do the trip over 6 months, about £5000 is a safe enough bet, not inc. cost of shipping, which I researched a bit at prices around £600-£900 one way for air freighting a metre cube at 300kg, two bikes in a slightly bigger container would be cheaper.
Ive got a honda dominator '89, with touratec alloy panniers, set me back about £1800, and im learning the mechanics myself at moment. But theres still some stuff to do on it. I know a bit of spanish, enough to get by and talk a bit. Ive just ordered some maps for most s.american countries, my timescale isnt pinned down at the mo. if you want to email me, swap a bit of info: simonwinterburn@yahoo.co.uk cheers si. |

tedmagnum, send me an email. I've always wanted to ride a bike from Houston (where I live now) to Bolivia (where I grew up). I've got 4 weeks vacation to do a one-way trip and fly back. I'm a native spanish speaker with a decent amount of travel experience in south and central america, although very little of it on a motorcycle. I am decently knowledgeable on mechanics and a low maintenance travel.
I'm at a very early stage of planning so I would appreciate any advice on whether my schedule is realistic or if I need to ask for some extra time off work. I'm dead serious on the trip though, bought a bike this week and will have the funds to travel. I would be happy to travel in company for any or all of the trip. marcos.flores at gmail.com ------------------ [This message has been edited by marcosfb (edited 11 January 2006).] |
Hello Marcos
Have you had any additional thoughts on the trip to Bolivia? When do you think you might leave Texas? Bob |
Looking to travel upto Alaska around June '06 and then down through the latin Americas during the colder months (ie from October onwards). Eventually coming back north to ship my bike to Mediterranean Europe and down through Africa.
Anyone thinking of the same thing and want to buddy up ? I'm on a Honda ST1300. Please email me if so. |
Crzn- I leaving mid May from NYC to Alaska then south. Send me an emai if you are interested in coordinating.
I really wish we could consolidate these 'going to sa threads' There are at least three this year. ------------------ "Brooklyn Dakar" http://www.motorcycleramblings.com/ "This is the story of America. That thread about meeting up with a wanderlust partner of the opposite sex. Note how everyone has stuck to a single thread, and pretty much stayed on topic. I think the trick is including sex in the thread - makes people focus more. [This message has been edited by quastdog (edited 03 April 2006).] |

I'm in Houston and had planned a round-trip from here to Panama City beginning in September/October. But, now I'm thinking about shipping my bike from Panama to SA, preferably Colombia or Ecuador, and then riding as far south as I can go. Then, I will sell my bike and fly back to Houston. I am flexible about dates and travel route and willing to work these things out with a travel partner. I'm bold and old and an experienced rider and have been to Mexico many times (rode my bike to Matzatlan in 1998), and have visited the coastal regions of some Central American countries. I'm ashamed that my Spanish is about as good as that on Sesame Street, but I know how to communicate (having lived in France, Belgium, Portugal, Greece, Ethiopia, South Africa, Australia, etc.). If you're still looking for a riding partner, lemme know. Regards. |
psilocybes -thanks for the email, see you next week
d w dogs -let me know if you're interested in going for a beer/discussing ideas! i'm in LA going to buenos aires in aug (i was thinking of panama-ecuador btw.. i've heard columbia roads on a bike can be v dangerous outside of the cities.. banditos) see other thread in travellers seeking travellers: 'depart 01 aug 2006 la -ba' same goes for anyone else in that neck of the woods later in the year. i have basic spanish under my belt. alex getalexfr at hotmail dot com |

throwing my hat into the mix
I've been watching and waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike. The time has come!
It's been really interesting reading about everyones plans to meet up. Sounds like there is a West coast thing happening. Anybody near Florida? I'll be leaving for my maiden overland voyage around mid October. Miami to Ushuaia and back. I'm planning on six months, maybe more. I'm raising money for the National Parkinson Foundation. I am not fluent in Spanish but I definetly don't get laughed at, not for my linguistic skills anyway. I'm 29, laid back, no drugs. Mechanically inclined, though no pratctical knowledge. Chef by trade. I'd love to make some plans to rendezous with some people. When my website is ready, I'll post it and whoever is curious can get a better idea of who I am. Safe travels everyone. |

Chile Nov 06
Hola
My Cousin Darren and I are arriving late November in Santiago to embark on our first o'seas trip by motorcycle. We are both in our early thirties and will be on my 1200GSA for around 2 months. At this stage we are keen to visit Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia but are pretty flexible. We are easy going Aussies and would like to meet up with other travellers in SA November to Feb. Cheers Paul:scooter: |
2 Aussies on an Adventure in SA Sept 06 - Feb 07
Nottles,
My wife & I will be in Santiago mid Sept 06, going up to Peru, then Bolivia, Iguazu Falls, Buenos Aires, eventually down to Ushuaia for Christmas. Then we will come back up to Santiago & due to fly out back to Oz early Feb. Sounds like the timing is quite similar. We are Brisbane based & will be 2-up on an 04 1150 Adventure. We plan to be self-sufficient such that we can choose to either get accomodation along the way or camp overnight if the location & conditions suit. Would be interested in catching up with you for a chat about your plans in more detail (we're in Brisbane) Cheers, Mark & Aasha |
Mark and Aasha
It would be good to catch up. I can't email you privately until I post some more and am a bit reluctant to put the mobile number out there. If you have posted more than 15 times can you privately email me. Otherwise when I get 15 up I'll email you. Cya Paul |
Paul (& anyone else that might be doing a similar trip around the same time),
We have set up a website showing a few details of our approximate route, which will obviously change along the way. Anyhow, its www.markaasha.com and has our email address so you can contact us from there. Cheers, Mark & Aasha |
