South America Oct 2016
Looking for motorcycle traveling partner(s) from Seattle to tip of South America and back. Anticipate 6 months travel time, more or less. I want to tour South America, not just drive through it. I have a Suzuki DR 650 and am outfitting it in bits and pieces. Plan to camp as much as possible to save money. Myself, I'm retired and am very easy going, usually get along with everyone. You-any age, any sex, any bike, any speed, any nationality, can met anywhere along the way. Looking to have a great ride. :mchappy:

Good to know. I will not be able to join you in this trip, but are you planning to visit São Paulo? If yes, please let me know. Maybe we can drink a beer or coffee somewhere.
As you mentioned camping, I do recommend the Home Page - FuiAcampar (a kind of a hub which consolidates the best data and evaluations about camping in Brazil). It is all in portuguese, but you can translate using Google. Good luck. :thumbup1: |
I'm headed that way...
I'll be coming through Seattle in late August heading south to Ushuaia. My plan is a bit slower, I think. I plan to spend September exploring parks in the western U.S., entering Baja in October.
Maybe we will be close? ~brent Route and Places to See – Loving Living Adventuring |
One more time
Hey Short Leggs,
I made it from Northern California to Santiago, Chile 18 months ago and shipped my KLR back when it was rendered unrideable due to Chileian sidswipping it ! I am looking to make it to TDF again, ideally along Pan American all the way to Panama fairly fast so as to concentrate on the South Americaian portion (thinking 4 or 5 months for S.A. itself) (3 weeks from Baja to Starhlratte ??) Anybody??? Glenn |

Good to hear from a fellow dr650/sailor. I have a Norsea 27 sailboat that will be my home in a few months I think. Am living with my girlfriend but am finding it too expensive to pay rent and moorage. I have arthroscopic knee surgery coming up soon and am counting on being totally fine by summer, when I plan on a trial trip to Colorado for a couple of weeks. Other than that, let's talk some more. I haven't looked at this post for a few weeks but will keep checking it more often now that someone has replied. Gotta figure out how to get an email address to/from you without putting it on the chat board.

Hey Brent, I plan to ride through Mexico fairly quickly, down to Baja and cross the Sea of Cortez on a ferry. Then it's south from there. I have no schedule, my only goal is to ride as far south as there are roads and turn around and come back. Down the west coast, back a different way. I'm thinking 6 months but am very flexible as I'm retired and don't have to worry about a job or deadline. I'm trying to figure out how to get/send an email address that doesn't show up on this chat room.

I'm leaving from NYC September-ish 2016. Target is Buenos Aires but maybe TDF if I'm feeling ambitious. Time frame is ~12 months. DR650. 38 yr old american male.
Not sure yet how much I want to do solo and how much with partners, but since we all seem to be going that way at the same time, I thought I'd put my plans up on this thread in case we cross paths or need to reach out. |
Hello there
I am also planning a trip from the east coast ( Delaware) to Argentina I have a KLR , I am almost done with it she is ready to go. Planning on leaving around the same time, October early November. I am also retired etc Stay in touch Patrick |

I plan to enter Baja in October and check out the Baja 1000, then meander slowly south, not reaching Ushuaia until March. My email is on my site as well other links for Facebook and Twitter. ~brent |
A fellow chinariders.net member is kitting out a $1300 USD Chinese enduro and is planning to go all the way south around that time. However, due to the low cost of the bike, he is calling his trip a "ride and dump" in which he plans to sell, or simply leave, his bike down there and fly back. I am seriously considering doing the same for the Baja portion of the trip as I live in Yuma and he is planning to stop here on his way into Baja. We will travel together to Cabo, where he will go further south, and I will ride my bike back to Yuma (mine won't be dumped!).

Hi there
I'm planning on leaving Vancouver, BC Canada on November 1st 2016 for south america. |
I'm the knuckle head that will be riding a Haosen 250 Hawk as far south as the money or the China Bike will take me. Will be leaving Georgia about the 3rd week of September. Swing through Yuma and down through Baja. Plan to zip through Mexico and CA. Want to focus most of my time in SA.

Sorry to hear your ride was cut short last time, maybe more enjoyable this next time? I'm going to try to find out how I can get my email address to all the people who seem to be going the same way around the same time so maybe we can share some riding time. As soon as I can figure it out I'll send you my email address and go from there. As of now I'm planning on going solo until someone actually wants to ride together. I'm not desperate to have a riding partner, but I have done solo bicycle rides and it seems more enjoyable to have someone to talk to once in awhile.

What you mention is almost exactly what I have planned. I'm coming from New Zealand to the US (buy a bike there is my best plan at the minute) in mid to late June and I then plan to spend as much time south of the gap as I can over the four months thereafter. I'm working on my spanish (eek) and am keen to go with the flow once well prepared (bike, kit, cold beer etc). Let me know if that'd suit your timeline. Regards, Kiwi-Cam |

Hi!
I'll be setting off to Alaska around July 23rd, touch the tip, and then make my way to the tip of South America. I think I'll go through Canada/Montana/Wyoming on my way down but it seems we'll be crossing the CA/Mexico border about the same time. I'm also looking for someone to travel with and to camp as much as possible. |

Heading South...wanting travel buddy
Hey Short Legs,
I don't know if you have been routinely reviewing your post, but I thought I would give it a try. I am a single lady, hoping to meet up with others traveling south. This is my first motorcycle trip and was hoping to not have to do it entirely solo. I noticed there were several riders expressing an interest and wanting to travel in the same general direction around the same time frame, was hoping I may be able to connect up with atleast one of you to see if we may be a good fit. About me: I'm a novice rider on a dr650. Would like to leave October ...primarily for weather concerns...I live in Tucson...and right now it's HOT! October the weather is much more comfortable. I don't have an exact route, or timeframe...and I am extremely flexible. I would like to travel comfortably...taking it a bit slow as to enjoy the sights. Don't mind camping or hostels or hotels. I tend to travel a bit conservatively. If it doesn't strike fear in you to travel with a novice female...send me a text and maybe we could chat further. Cynthia |
Hi all, and hello Cynthia. My girl and I will be taking a KLR 650 from Tucson to South America right around the same time frame. Leaving Tucson around mid-november, then taking a year to slowly make our way south. I'd love to meet up with as many riders as we can. We've motorcycled (heh heh - scootered) Thailand and Vietnam and are looking forward to exploring south america in much the same fashion. We will depart Tucson and head to Baja, then take the ferry to the mainland. Travellers and new friends welcome!

South America
I fly to Costa Rica August 24 to start residency process. I will buy a bike in South America in September. I'd prefer a V-Strom or a KLR, but will probably buy a DR that a Kiwi left in Foz do Iguassu.
I'ill go there in early September and ride around southwestern Brazil, then Uruguay. I'd like to enter Brazil before September 18 as they are waiving their $160 visa fee because of the Olympics. Yes, I'm cheap. Otherwise I'll buy a KLR in Cali or Santiago. They're better equipped, but won't get to Brazil in time very easily. I've ridden around South America four times, three of them from/to the US. I had a wreck in Ecuador last year and spent most of the past year in hospitals having four operations and left my DL there. But I'm ready to go again. I've ridden for the last eight years in 60+ countries including Europe, Africa, and Latin America, except to this past year. I'm old enough and have broken beaucoup bones (about 100) that I stay in hostels or mooch off friends and don't camp. If anyone is interested in joining me for Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina (bad for Suzuki parts), Chile, or Peru in October to December time frame, give me a shout. Chris, motomon@pobox.com bier |
I will be leaving Delaware mid september on a KLR. Stoping in Guatemala for 2 weeks to learn some spanish. Boarding the Stahlratte on November 14 for Columbia and from there no more schedule.. Retired..
Hope to meet some on you on the road ridwithpatrick.com |
I'm a newbie on the HUBB but have been an HU member for years. I'm heading from my winter place in Mesa,AZ on Nov.12-ish for Ushuaia. I'm riding my Triumph Explorer, just finished AK, YT, NWT and BC (where my home is). I've done all of Mexico several times and speak Spanish fairly well. Those interested in riding some or lots together let me know. I'm at the HU CanWest rally Aug.25-28. Had all my shots and am devouring Chris Scott's 'Adventure Motorcycling Handbook' in preparation. Guess I better learn how to use the HUBB too!!!

I have posted an interest in making a direct ride to Panama (via Baja then Pan American and then getting to Columbia (stahlratte preferred). I have not firmed up any persons going (leaving mid Oct.), had a couple response here and personal email but since it is getting quite close, I am putting a shout out again........Any body going for sure ! (plan on doing most of S.A. 4-6 months from arriving in Columbia)......

The two remaining trips in Nov (14th and 21st) are filling up quickly as far as I know. So check with Ludwig at info.steelrat@les-raisting.de about availability and reservation soon if one of the trips fits your schedule. However, have a great trip! Stefan |
Continuation of ride to TDF
As I previously explained in earlier post I made it to Santiago, Chile. (And am looking to do it all over again but NOT to get sideswiped in Sandiago this time!)
Here is my website for that trip ......... https://glennn1234.wordpress.com/blog/ |
Hey short legs, you in S.A. yet? My buddy and I are currently in Concepcion, Chile on a couple of KLR's, meandering south for the next month. If you or anyone else is about, give us a shout.

Hi all
We are two-up on a Suzuki 650 and will be crossing Tijuana into the Baha at the end of this week around 30th/31st October. We have 5 months and are booked to fly out of Buenos Aires 24th March. Our plan is to travel quickly through Mexico as we spent 5 months there 2014. Allowing ourselves 2 to 2 and a half weeks to reach Belize, then 2 to 3 weeks in Belize and Guatemala. Will probably be trying to find a way across the Darian gap beginning December. Looking to air freight bike possibly cheaper if we can coordinate more than 1 bike. Happy to link up with anybody along the way. P'S In our 5 months in Mexico we met only 1 fellow adventure motorcyclist. We're not as common as you might think. TassieTourer |
In Oaxaca, on schedule to make the Stahratte on 11/14/2016
