South from Mazatlan
 

I arrived in Mazatlan today after the La Paz - Mazatlan ferry was cancelled due to a possible storm. The next planned crossing was not till Sunday so I took the Topolobampo option.
Our crossing was a bit lumpy as we say in Australia and the ferry has seen better days but I made it.
I'm hanging around Mazatlan for a couple of days and then heading south to Guatemala and maybe Belize.
I'm planning on being back in San Diego at the end of January.
Anyone going to be riding the same way?
Any tips for roads to ride, places to visit (or avoid) or interesting places to stay.

Hey Matt,

As far as places to check out that you're near now, I would recommend Guadalajara, Tequila (it's a fun little town, worth a few hours and a tour of a tequila distillery), Guanajuato and Queretaro. Michoacan is a lovely state that has gotten a bad reputation but is worth seeing if you stick to the main roads and more touristy places like Patzcuaro, Janitzio, Santa Maria del Cobre and Morelia.

I would avoid the state of Guerrero completely. I live in the state of Mexico and I avoid going to Guerrero at all costs.

I have a free week next week and am looking for something to do, maybe we could meet in Guanajuato. Send me a message. I'm also planning to travel south towards Panama starting December 19th.
