Summer tour of Mexico
Hi All,
I am planning a ride down into Mexico in early July. The person I was going to ride with just backed out. I would love to have someone or a group of people to ride with. I am flexible on itenerary. So far, my plan is to ride the length of Baja, camping where possible, hotels the rest of the time, take the ferry from La Paz to Mazatlan. http://www.ferrysematur.com.mx/flash_56k.html From Mazatlan to Durango over "la espina de diablo"...Spine of the Devil...one of the best motorcycle roads in Mexico. http://www.pacificpearl.com/feature0.htm It rises from the coastal flats and goes over the top of the Sierra Madre. From Durango heading south to Zacatecas and Michoacan. Visiting Largo Chapala, and then farther South. In Micoacan visiting Paracho, a small town where the entire community makes guitars http://www.mexicofile.com/parachoguitars.htm, a visit to Paracutin. Paracutin is a volcano that broke through a corn field about 60 years ago forming a mountain and destroying a village. http://volcano.und.nodak.edu/vwdocs/...paricutin.html From Paracutin to Mexico City to visit the pyramids of Tenochitlan and Teotihuacan, http://www.crystalinks.com/mexico.html and then heading North through San Miguel de Allende to Chihuahua. In Chihuahua will be riding to Barancas de Cobre(Copper Canyon)http://www.coppercanyon-mexico.com/cc-mex/ccbato.htm. Creel is the entry point to the canyon. I plan on riding down to the mining town of Batopilos, site of the richest silver boom in the history of the world. In the 1700's they took 500lb silver boulders out of the river. After Batopilos, the plan is to head back to the USA. Anybody up for an adventure? Send me a note, or reply here. Thanks, Dave Modesto, CA R1150GS |
Passport is here. Gear has almost all arrived. I am leaving from now until Saturday to take my 18 year old daughter to college orientation up at California State Univeristy Humboldt. I will leave for Mexico either Sunday or Monday next week.
Anyone who ends up riding around Mexico in July, keep your eyes out. I will be on a fire engine red 2000 R1150GS. Hasta la vista, Dave |
Dave: If you pass thru Guadalajara and need help, drop me a mail.

Thanks, I will write down your email. I plan on going through Guadalajara. Hopefully I won't need any help. My rear tire will probably need replacing in Guadalajara or Mexico City during the trip. I have the dealer names and addresses written down for that occurance.

Trip to Mexico is done. 27 days, 7,743 miles. It was a lot of fun. Almost met up with some of the people here from the forum. The
Australian guys who headed into Mexico at the same time as me saw me from their hotel balcony in Mazatlan, but I didn't see where the shouts were coming from and kept riding. No mechanical problems...just lots of rain after hurricane Emily. Lots of pics loaded up on my kodak page. http://www.kodakgallery.com/I.jsp?c=...m&x=0&y=mrv31j hasta, Dave Quote:
