TCAT June/July 2017 - High level planning
Hi Guys,
I've started planning a full TCAT trip in June/July 2017. The plan is set in motion, but high level for now as there's more than enough time left. I'll be using a DR650SE which will to be overhauled coming winter. I leave from Belgium, probably mid/end May to start on the trail early June. Today the plan is to ride solo, but given the nature of the trip i'm open to discuss joining forces with one or two other riders, for the full trail or short sections. If there are others out there with similar plans, post a reply or send me a PM. Cheers :thumbup1:, Joris |
Hi!
I'm looking at riding the Trans america trail East to West then drive the TCAT West to East to get back home. I'm from Montreal and would leave mid-summer 2017, I'm thinking I would need 16 weeks to do this trip. How long are you traveling for? What are you planning to do once you reach the West coast? |
I have a 10 week travel budget, from BE to CA and back to BE. So it's about 9 weeks on the trail.
When (if) i arrive in Vancouver Island, i'll head straight back to Vancouver airport for return flight. Will you do the full TCAT West to East? |
Everything is still in very early planning so it's all up to change, but I was planning doing the TCAT at the point where it meets with the Washington Back Discovery Route (that would be where the route dips back towards the border after going up from Vancouver) and stopping in Montreal.
That being said, I'm open to start the TCAT properly at its west-most point in Vancouver Island, I've never been to Vancouver Island and would probably enjoy it very much and could definitely make time for it. For now, though, I have a hard time imagining that I would not finish in Montreal, I've done trips like this before and I'm usually very happy to get back home. That being said, it's definitely not out of the question that I could keep on after a few days of recharging in my hometown, I've got family to visit along the TCAT further East from Montreal. For shipping the bike I don't know if you know about it, but Air Canada has a motorcycle shipping special during the summer with their "fly your bike" program. I would definitely check it out, they are very competitive in their pricing. https://www.aircanada.com/cargo/en/s...tab_motorcycle |
Yes indeed, Air Canada has a great shipping program, even from Belgium to Canada with bike crating service included. I've had a call with their agents, they didn't have pricing info for 2017 yet, but assured me the program will continue in summer 2017. Great stuff!
Nice plan you have. Indeed it's all very high level right now. I'll keep this in mind for future planning, we might bump into each other eventually. |
Hi
I am planning on shipping myself and my Bike to Canada around May/June 2017, I will not be in any hurry, I was thinking about the TCAT or parts of it at least, as well as general touring around for a few months before slowly heading to Central/South America. I would be happy to meet up for some trail action. |
Where are you frm? I'm nore than happy to join up for some trails
