Trans-Africa and Asia Expedition departing end Oct '03
Hi Folks
Don't know where Jef Iman's group has got to but just to let you know about an expedition departing from London on around the 27th Oct 2003. We are planning a loop around Africa starting down the west side and then across to India/Tibet/Nepal and on down through Asia. No fixed itinery, just taking it as it comes - this is a life trip not a package holiday. Same thing with timescales although we have blocked out the coming year in our diaries.. :-) At the moment the group comprises of two guys on 1150GS's with one other interested but too many commitments.. The more the merrier so anyone who's interested or has any comments, please shout! ------------------ "Don't tell me what I can and can't do!!" |
Hi Rick, it's a trip worth doing.
There's no way we'll keep up, but We're planning the same thing, with 10 months to get to CT. Intention is to enter Morocco before the end of October, play around a bit south of the Atlas before doing the Rabat/Casa visa tour(or vice versa, pretty flexible really) If you see an Iveco Daily 4x4 based motorhome (english reg. there is only one) trundling along, give us a shout. Maybe we could share some trip legs/logs/info etc. see you out there Luke |
Hi Luke
Nice to hear from you. Will definitely be on the lookout and good luck. We might just catch you in Morocco if we get a move on. I will be updating this thread with our progress. Are you planning to cross the Sahara? |
Hi
We'll be more skirting around the Sahara. From Morocco, the only choice is the Atlantic route. Still undecided if Choum/Atar is worth the detour. I want to try to get into Senegambia, then turn left for Timbuktoo. Thereafter who knows? Ivory Coast has calmed down apparently, so that's a possibility. There's so much to see and do that we've chosen to decide as we go along. Any company we choose to roll with will also be able to influence decisions. See you on/off the road Luke |
That just about sums up my view/philosophy too. Will keep this thread updated. I finished my first aid course today - can't wait to get going http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
Keep in touch.. |
Hiya Guys,
Myself (South African), Tyler (USA) and Gary (AUS) will be heading off at the end of this month too... I'm on a XR650L and the other two KTM Adventurers so chances are we may cross paths, we plan a fairly quick trip down to Morrocco and then kinda go where the wind blows with the intention of doing the Atlantic Route, Senegal, Gambia and then also upto Timbuktu, will keep an eye out for you..... safe travels Mark |
Hey Mark & co,
you forgot to say when you're going. I'm at my last day of work (yippee!), ready for a couple of weeks of seriously intense vehicle preparation. I'll probably still tidying up the bodywork as we cross Morocco. Keep this space posted if you can. Luke |
sorry Luke,
yeah this is my last week at work and then a fairly intense two weeks for me, I arrive in Bilboa spain on the 30th and meet up with the other guys shortly after that and then AFRICA baby, cant wait.... safe travels dude and maybe see ya on a dune... |
Hi Guys
I've just resurfaced after being laid up in bed for a week with flu. That's a week's preparation wasted.. Still, there's not too much left to sort out so I'm still hoping to set off at the end of the month. I hate motorways so will be taking back routes down thru western France and then over into northern Spain in order for me to spend a night in Madrid. Will hopefully catch up with you soon. |
Luke
We are heading to Morrocco on the 23 November entering via Cueta. Maybe we can hook up for some of the Atlantic route. Do you have contact details? Our contact is duksjourney@yahoo.co.uk or www.duksjourney.com We are a landie 110. Cheers David & Katja |
Luke
We will be in Africa at the same time as you. We are heading to SA in our Landie 110 going Atlantic and then either Chad Sudan or Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon, DRC, Angola. If you fancy hooking up for a few legs let us know. See profile for our details. Cheers |
Hey Mark
Have you left yet? I'm going on my own now. One or two things have conspired to delay my trip but I intend to set off from the UK 2 weeks today (17th). Need to get down towards the Morocco fairly quickly now to avoid the weather.. |
Hi Rick,
Mark left on the ferry to spain yesterday, and is coming to meet up soon, while tyler rides down from France to meet up here in Girona (northern Spain),then we will bolt on down to southern Spain into Morocco, probably on the ferry over to Ceuta. Then ride on down south from there. What bike and colour are riding, Cheers Gazza- white ktm (maybe not for long!) Mark -xr 650 L -red, blue, white. Tyler- ktm- black-ish. SO HURRY THE @$&# UP FELLAS..... ------------------ Ride hard, ride safe- Ride on...with no regrets of life passed by. |
Hi GG
I hear it's been raining in southern Spain for the last 2 weeks! I'm on a black and silver GS which still looks too new... Are you sprinting thru Africa or taking it at a leisurely pace? Rick |
