Trans American Trail Late August - September
2 guys 25yr/old from Chicago + 1 maybe from Germany are planning to do the Trans American Trail starting Late August if anyone is interested in joining reach out.
We are quitting our jobs and planning to keep going afterwards, but have no plans set and are open to ideas. |
The TAT & Beyond????
I am curious as to what bikes will you guys be riding and what type of riding are you seriously gonna be doing?
Where are you thinking of possibly going beyond the TAT and for how long? Will most of the trip revolve around camping? Do you plan on leaving the US? Many questions |
TAT
I’ll be riding a klr650, and my friend will be riding a triumph tiger both prepped for off roading. We are planning for most of the trip to revolve around camping and moderate off-roading.
We are planning on going beyond the TAT, and considering doing The TCAT, but are exploring other options - including traveling beyond the US (down through Mexico and South America sounds appealing). |
Type of riding
Sounds like you guys will be sticking to mostly pavement, gravel, and fire roads. I am looking to go down into Mexico too but I am looking to do a quite a bit more off roading.

It's possible we might cross paths or perhaps I may even join you two for a part of your travels. I'm departing from Toronto in late August/September pointed towards Baja California and onwards to Belize and/or Costa Rica. Would be interested in comparing notes so see if it might work. |

We are sincerely trying to do more off-road and adventure style riding. KLR was a choice of mine for a balance of all around reliability and performance (and because I could not find a goof DRZ400 in my area). Lets maybe compare some details and maybe we can do some parts together. |
I believe you'll find that starting the TCAT in late September is a bit....impractical.
Starting south from Oregon, on the other hand, would be just about perfect: if you hustle, you could be in Ushuaia by January; make a point of taking it slow and maybe you'll catch the following spring. But the TCAT--i.e., 15,000 km of farmland, prairie, mountains, taiga and shoreline--might be pushing your luck. IMHO, as always. |
suggestion...
Hi guys
i'm in the the us right now with Versys 650 in the us. Riding mainly back / scenic roads and camping. i'm doing NYC - New Orleans (currently here) - California - Seattle. At the beginning of September i'm finishing here (right after Burning Man) and want to ride to south america through central america. The TCAT is indeed a little impractical, but we can figure different itinerary. |
