UK to Anywhere - Anytime
Hey all,
Just got to the UK (well a few weeks ago now) and am itching to buy a bike here (leaving my baby back at home) and cruise around. But cruising has always been more fun to me with someone else around. Anyone looking to do some shorter rides, maybe long weekend or week long trips, I'm even up for a couple of weeks? (I will be looking at months long rides in the future though, through several continents) I love camping too, so can do it all on the cheap (well cheaper than hotels anyway). I don't have specific routes, but want to see places like France, Czech, Italy, etc. I am an experienced road rider, and even on the dirt, I want to get more off road and even into sand if there's an opportunity. I'm not afraid to give it a go. But I've got no real experience with planning for such a trip, ie carrying spares and other long trip things... and Visa getting, I've only got a UK visa (i'm allowed into the EU too) but other than that, i'm probably going to have to see where i can go and where i can get a visa for. My first thread here, so let me know if I've left anything out. |
Hi,
Am planning to ride the UK early next month and continuing into Europe, hopefully to attend HU Meeting in Germany and who knows where else. Not intending to bring my bike from home and would be hiring one in the UK upon arrival (30 Sep 2010). My plan is to ride Highland Scotland first then into Ireland, back UK, ferry to Spain, Portugal, France and Germany. Then will decide what next. Would be nice if you are about doing the same. The least we meet up for a drink or two. Regards. |
Hi Booga,
Hope alls going well for you here in the UK. If you fancy looking up North, ie East Yorkshire and North Yorkshire, I can help out with accomodation and possibly even a bike, dependant on insurance. Let me know if you're heading this way. Cheers. beer |

But if you're ever in London I'm certainly up for a drink, and you can tease me about where you'll be going. |

Yeah, going well, just ended up landing a job, but I am planning on visiting up that way (hopefully soonish) to visit a friend in Grimsby. I may still get a bike this year, but people have warned me about an increase in black ice, which we don't really get in Australia (except for high altitudes), so not sure if i should hold out, or buy it now and ride around for a bit and then store it for next year. |

Cool, thanks... I am from Australia, but my forum name isn't relating to my name really... I will take a look there, as I don't have a bike at the moment, but I am looking at a BMW Dakar on here at the moment. :) |
This is the bike I'm looking at:
http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...007-sale-51580 As I'm from Australia, so any help on what I would still need to get/do to get it on the road over here (its all confusing with MOT, TAX, Ins, etc) would be greatly appreaciated. |
Just done it
I have just been through the process importing an R80
Registering an imported vehicle : Directgov - Motoring This told me all I needed to know. It was easy, just took all the paperwork to local DVLA office and in 2 days a I had the paper to get a registration plate and was on the road. 2 weeks later the reg docs turned up. Carole Nash were able to give me insurance with just the chassis number, which is a requirement. |
Peak district
