I have been considering this trip too. I have been travelling for the past 3 years from South America to Alaska etc. I am currently back in the UK for a short while and will continue to travel in Asia and Europe for the remainder of this year. I traveled South America etc on a Yamaha Tenere660 but I have now sold that bike and will be buying and preparing a new bike next year. maybe a new tenure 700. Im 54 and have no ties so can travel for as long as it takes. whats your plan re rout and timescale. |

Anyway, just thought I would mention shipping from Singapore is all good (if a tad expensive), but you may also want to consider riding to Dilli in East Timor and ship from there, would be a shame to miss Indonesia. |
Riding to Aus
Good evening David
Thank you very much for your reply. You are not the first person to say I should travel to Timor. My issue is that I am travelling alone on this part of my journey and felt It was quite easy to just transport the bike from Bangkok in terms of planning and paperwork. I would really appreciate the opportunity to have a coffee and chat if your in the UK to get an idea of what is involved and the necessary paperwork. Not only with regards this part but the other areas I will be going through I live in the North East but regularly travel down south with work. I look forward to hearing fromyou |
Hello, I am looking to do a similar trip starting at about the same time, while I don't think my route will be exactly the same as your we may be able to ride together for parts.
My overall plan is to do the same journey as you hopefully ending up in New Zealand if possible. How far into your planning are you at the moment? |
Riding to Aus
Morning David
I feel that I'm getting ahead with my planning, however I don't have anything concrete at the moment. I have a guy who lives in Rotterdam interested in coming as far as Bangkok. I have the option to employ a guide to take me through the Wakhan corridor and the Pamir highway. I also have a company called ridechina.com who are able to do whats required to get through China, Ive just started discussions with a company to get me through Malaysia. Not sure if that's a great amount but although Ive toured America extensively I have no experience of any other parts of the world. I'm planning on going at the beginning of May ( probably couldn't go any earlier as I'm selling my business but could go later ) I'm thinking of buying a KTM 790 adventure to do the trip on. Hope this helps John P |
