Hi Dean,

Defender and bike combo looks awesome, best of both worlds!
Maybe we will meet in Kazakhstan depending on timing?

I'll certainly look out for you!

Mike.

hey Mike really enjoyed your informative, direct website link, and changes to the CRF spot-on. I am traveling basically the same route, same bike but a bit of a cheat (i have a 7 year old daughter with me) so the bike on the back of my camper-Defender, see attached pic. I am quite familiar with the route, but with my daughter i am a bit worried about any over run into Turkey and I have good friends in Iran (traveled there last year) and with UK reg vehicle i am a bit afraid. So i will go north from Salzburg via Czech, Poland, Denmark, ferry to Iceland (only east coast), return to Denmark and North via Norway to enter Russia at Murmansk. South via Kazakhstan to Tibet. I am over in the Uk for a month from end of Jan to end of Feb so if you make any changes to the route or meet up somewhere on the road would be great. over to you, ciao dean

Just thought I would add my info here as well. I am leaving London on March 11 and heading to Magadan. Below is a rough plan of my route.

I have found it very helpful to get to know other travelers doing similar routes. Being able to share info and occasionally meet-up can be extremely valuable on these long journeys.

There's about 4-500km spot in northern Uzbekistan without gas stations at the border crossing; beware. You can probably buy gas from someone off the street.

How many miles or km for this trip? One or both ways?
How long is your trip planned for?

Hi buddy I'm thinking a similar route but may return via Iran or carry on. I'm happy with the slower pace and may takes CRF or a g310gs not sure yet, will be leaving from the Midlands and would be happy to discuss if we can tie in our dates.

Kindest regards

Ikram

That may be a better choice as snow may stay in mountains till August.. and it will be scorching hot in 'stans.

I've postponed to 2022. It pains me to push back the trip of a lifetime but I don't want coronavirus to dominate my experience, and I think it'll still be around more than we would like next year, plus I have alternative travel plans in 2021.
