UK to Turkey - Summer/Autumn 2009.
Hi, looking to ride through eastern Europe to Istanbul (not using ferries) in the summer/autumn of this year.
I'll be riding my R1150GS, don't like long high speed thrashes, much prefer taking time and seeing the country! I'll be carrying camping gear, though will be using cheap hotels too. As a general rule - I'm fairly skint! The idea would be to do some easy trails too, but I'm an off road novice, and the GS is a big bike ;-) I'm mid 40's, and have been riding and touring since 1980, but not much in the last decade (bringing up a family). Ideally I'm looking for a couple of other bikers, and there's no problem going our seperate ways if need be ;-) David ~ P.S. - I'm in Nottingham, PM me if you're interested. |
Hi Dave,
I'm likely to be riding back that way late summer. So maybe we can hook up. I ride a 250 though and don't like going to fast (well i do...the bike doesnt! ha!). I'm camping ALL the way as usual with only an occasional hotel to charge my camera batterys. Maybe we can hitch up on the way home Thanks Joe |
hi david,
i have done the similar trip on 2006 (from l'boro to istanbul but took the ferry in italy to greece) as i live in turkiye now, i can only join you in turkiye. drop me a line before you come. |
Hi David,
Three of us are planning to leave London in mid-September, heading for Istanbul and beyond. We're on Yamaha 250s so it won't be a fast ride. The main timescale objective will be to get out of the Eurozone as soon as possible (controlled by our 250cc engines) in the hope that things will be cheaper beyond. The only other feature we have in mind at the moment is to go through Croatia. Two of us (my daughter and I) have ridden to Istanbul before, through Romania and Bulgaria. We'll be mainly camping. So if it sounds as though we may be in the same places anywhere on route, let me know, we'd be happy to meet up wherever it fits in. |
Hi David!
I'm leaving Switzerland mid-July going through the Balkans, Turkey, Georgia, Armenia, Iran to the Caspian Sea and back to Switzerland. Maybe we'll meet up somewhere? Michael |
Update!
My R1150GS was rear ended on the M1 last Friday, and is now at Pidcocks BMW being assesed...
It doesn't look good, as it took a heavy rear impact. So my travel plans are on hold for now... I'm hoping that the bike isn't written off, if it is it'll take a while to sort out and replace. Sadly inatentive lorry drivers can ruin your day :( |
:oops2:
sorry to hear about your bump, hope you are ok.I live just down the road from you in Loughborough and in August I`m off to Turkey and beyond, route open to discussion. Thought about Croatia etc as I haven't done the dalmation coast yet and it is supposed to be nice. Im on a ktm Adventure ,so similar bikes etc.My plans are very fluid...lol and would be good to meet up etc. cheers stu |
