USA - NC to CA and back June / July 2010
Thinking about taking a 16-day cross-country trip late June or early July 2010. Charlotte - Dallas - California, spend three or four days in CA (wife will fly in to ride the coastal highways for a bit) then back via slightly different route maybe? Denver? Memphis? Whatever?
Not sure of route or exact dates yet, and am OK with going solo, but would be nice to find someone to ride with on the whole trip or any given portion. Joe / '07 DL1000 |
NC/Ca
Joe , I rode from Oregon to Florida 08 left end of May BIG mistake.
I grew up in midwest and actually thought it would be a pleasant ride WRONG ! It is way too hot and Humid riding across the country that time of yr. Tx. is a long long boring ride ,you'd be better off IMO going North more and it is rewarding to say the least. If I rode Coast/coast again ( and I might ) it would be in Feb/March timeframe. In any case good luck and if arounf Orgon drop a line . |
Good info Billy thanks.
I am subject to certain time frames re: work, so I have to go with what I have. I figure Texas in June is like North Carolina (home) in July or August. Maybe I can move it to May.... lemme look into that.... |
We did the trip from Ocean City, MD, to San Diego, CA in September, went via all sorts of places, it was hot in AZ then, would be hell in June/July. Get yourself some mesh clothing and some cooling gear and drink plenty. Check out our trip in 2007 for more infomation.

I have made 9 cross country US round trips and the earliest I would leave is mid May.
California mountain passes will have a good chance of snow, some will not open until June. Nothern Arizona will have a good chance of snow. Southern Utah and most of Colorado are at high elevations and will still have snow. You will be better off going in June. |
