Jim,
I lived in Chiapas for 3 years. Lovely state! :thumbup1: http://submarcos.org/mapa-chiapas.jpg So you are coming along the east coast. I'm sure you will take a day or two in Veracruz and the beaches. Then take the route that will take you over to Palenque (Mayan center), http://rpfefferkorn.com/albums/san-c...l/IMG_0143.jpg then nearby on the same road: Aguas Azules http://www.vivanatura.org/AguaAzulPh2G.jpg an amazing mineral water river that creates its own pools and waterfalls by its deposits. Then tool on down the mountain road :scooter: http://members.home.nl/sandervk/mexi...cristobal2.jpg to San Cristolbal de las Casas. http://www.gacs-veress.com/pictures/...-Images/38.jpg If you are coming that far south, then you are probably heading for one of the 2 Pacific side entrances to Guatemala, so don't miss the Canyon del Sumidero before Tuxtla-Gutierrez http://www.mentalwanderings.com/phot...ierrez/357.JPG From there you can cut over (or directly from San Cristobal) to Comitan, the sub-tropical town and the Mayan ruins of Tenam Puente nearby http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/470/83941954vz0.jpg I'm sure you know these places as you live part of the time in Costa Rica, but I show the pictures to try to coax riders AWAY from the PANAMERICANA ONLY route where they miss SO MUCH ! :mchappy: Toby (charapa) Around the Block 2007 | |
I am leaving for Panama on about May 18 (mas o menos) from Natchitoches, Louisiana (I-49 between Shreveport and Alexandria). If nothing else, stop by. I plan on taking about 4 weeks to get to Panama. Email me at terraxpeditions at gmail dot com
PS, Thanks Toby for adding to my must see places. :) |
