Over the years I have learned to not put too much faith in any one internet person that you are supposed to meet up with.

It is a good idea to have a backup plan or backup plans in case the person turns out to be a flake.

There are a lot of factors that go into finding a good riding partner:
1. Trip Budget, hotels or camping
2. Morning Wakeup habits, does one guy sleep in way more than the other
3. Packing up in the morning, I am super slow at getting my tent, etc packed
4. Stopping for pictures and food
5. Riding offroad versus pavement
6. How many miles/ kms to ride a day
7. Speed that you ride at. On my last TAT trip I met up with a 22 year old guy on an xr650. I wasn't expecting to be slower riding on the trail than him, but I was.

.... I agree with what you have said !! There are probably a lot more factors to take in account !!
i I used to lead a load of guys around wales on off road bikes and it was a night mare ................. on your own is best ! ( or with your best mate )

I started reading this thread about travel buddies and somehow lost the plot with Torremolinos but I thought I'd chip in anyway.

I have travelled on two separate long distance bike trips with "strangers" who answered an "ad" I placed on this very forum (way back now, but I might try again in a minute for my Mongolia trip). Both times were wonderful. In once case we kept in touch and still see each other periodically as friends. Lost touch with the other guy but fond memories and the trip was a great experience for us both.

This forum already brought together people who are likeminded, so just add a dash of respect for each other's morning habits, patience with a slower (or in my case dumber/clumsier) travel partner and some common sense and it works.

That well formulated list of things are an ideal starting point to make sure you're both on the same page.

More often than not, and more frustrating than anything, are the droves of people who respond enthusiastically and drop out days before the planned trip - which is why I haven't advertised for a long while but do it on my own.

So you need to "gel " and compromise when travelling with someone !..... But if you find your having to compromise too much , your far better on your own !
I have had some really good times with mates . but i love to do my own thing when travelling on my own . and i find you will always meet other people along the way. Just had 3 weeks in Picos/ pyrenese by myself and really enjoyed it .
