American Bike in Nepal. Need definitive Carnet Advice to enter India
Hello,
I'm right in the middle of my RTW, working my way around in legs between work. I left my bike in Kathmandu. It's fine and so are the amazing people that have looked after if for me, thank whatever god needs thanking. My next leg takes me through India, Burma, Bhutan, Bangladesh, leaving the bike in Thailand. What I need help with is the most inexpensive way to get a carnet. What countries do it for cheap? It looks like the swiss do it for big $$$$? Has any North Americans out there found a cheap solution? I need to get this bullshit out of the way this summer as I'm back on the bike in October. Thanks in advance. Much love to those of you getting back to normal life and to those still on the road.... Brennan |

" The word from the CAA is that the plan is for a new central issuing authority for the world, based in Europe. That is expected this fall. So hold on for news! " |
Aaaaargh
Thank you for the reply.
Unfortunately with my work I need to have all my papers sorted out otherwise I'll miss this travel window. Waiting impatiently... |
I didn't think you get to choose where your Carnet comes from so assuming Canada still issues them, that is where you have to get it.
If Canada don't handle it anymore then you can go to the international body for one. ADAC are good, but I think they stopped issuing them to none Europeans a few months ago |
I am currently looking into this myself (as a Canadian).
I found the post below from back in March and it sounds really promising to get a carnet from ADAC: Quote:

Oh and here's the contact info for the person at ADAC that has been facilitating carnets for out of country bikes:

I'm writing that contact today. Thank you so much.

Adac won't do it. Switzerland will. I'll post how it goes.

Any updates? We (two US-citizens on US-registered bikes) will need to do this as well. We luckily have a bit more time as we are currently in South America and then will be in Europe but I am trying to nail down potential cost.... at least our DRs are of low-value (my recent blue book value is only $1,200 so that should help).
Cheers, Shannon |
