Arriving in England on a one way ticket, problem?

We are working on a budget for a trip next year, early thoughts are to ship bike to UK (from New Zealand) and then ride overland to Cape Town.

My travel agent has indicated that we might have problems getting into the UK if we do not have a ticket out of the country, that is something to prove that we arent going to stay long term in the UK.

I am not sure if this is real or a marketing ploy by our travel agent to sell us a return ticket!

Has the lack of a return ticket been a problem fior any one out there?

Perhaps ask your travel agent for documentary evidence of his statement?
Or a simple and cheap solution under your control would be to book yourself on the internet a one way ticket either on the ferry or on the Channel tunnel to France with an approximate date- you can always change them later on.

Thanks Bertrand, she wants to sell us a ticket home from Cape Town, but she did also suggest a cheap flight to Europe and maybe not use it.

We will take the bike on the Chunnel train so your suggestion is great!

That is true if you are traveling without visas.

If you do have a visa (not the visa waiver/reciprocity means) a one-way ticket should be fine.

The UK travel info I mentioned is available on-line.
