Belize Paperwork
Hello,
I will be traveling through belize via mexico. Need info on paperwork required to enter in belize. Best regards, Alberto |
Just the standard: Passport, Drivers License, and Title. No fees upon entering. But the exit tax is expensive. See Matt's post below.
After you enter the country you will need to buy insurance. The insurance is sold out of little shacks outside of the border. They either sell it daily, or monthly. If you are staying for more than a couple of days, it is worthwhile to get the monthly policy and then get the remaining amount refunded when you leave the country. There are police stops where they check to see if you have insurance. I've heard that one biker that didn't have insurance was escorted to go buy insurance. I had a great time in Belize. Would recommend Caye Caulker over San Pedro. San Pedro was like bringing the worst parts of Manhattan to Belize. If you need a place to store your motorcycle while you are out in the Cayes, you might try asking Ray over at Raysin Motorcycle shop. He was nice enough to store mine for the week I was out in the Cayes. --Terry [This message has been edited by TerryMoto (edited 26 May 2004).] |
I entered from Mexico riding down from Tulum. There was nothing to pay on entering Belize for either me or the bike. On leaving Belize they relieved me of 37.50 Belizean Dollars. Just under 20USD.
The insurance is another scam and there is no avoiding it as Terry says. To buy the insurance on a daily basis is quite expensive - maybe 18USD per day. I was advised that as I was passing through for a week that a 3 month policy was best. This cost 125BZD. On leaving the country I was entitled to a refund of half of the above amount. The refund is based on a percentage of an annual policy. |
Thanx for the replies.
Any idea if they check for lien on title? BMW sent me a letter to allow me to got through mexico. I wonder if they'll let me in belize without one. Alberto |
