Brazil visa for start of motorcycle travel

Hey everyone,

I have a really stupid question:

What kind of Visa do I need for Brazil if I want to buy a motorcycle there and start riding into other South American countries?

I am an Indian, currently living in Germany. So I would apply in Germany. And one of the requirements is to show a in-out flight booking before getting the visa.

Thanks in advance,
Ricky

Not exactly the same situation, but we reentered Brazil to pick up our camper that we had left in Brazil for nearly a year and had to get a visa with the same conditions for onward travel as you mentioned. I wrote out a detailed itinerary showing departure point and times with a rough timetable inside the country and that was accepted. We got that visa in Sydney, but did the same thing for the previous entry when we got that visa in Lima

Be aware that some airlines stick to the rules about onwards travel, so despite having a visa obtained on the basis of your itinerary, you might have to show the itinerary and do some fast talking at the checkin counter.. Because of this possible hassle, an easier way is to get an onwards ticket that can be cancelled when you get to Brazil. Some are available with very low cancellation fees

The tourist visa is enough. To buy, and register, a bike in Brazil you need a CPF and a proof of residency in Brazil. The CPF you can obtain at the brazilian embassy in Berlin (but I recommend to request at least 90 days before the day you are planing to arrive in Brazil), the proof of residency you can obtain here in Brazil. I wrote about the process to registry a bike in Brazil a few days ago in this thread.

Thanks for the replies!

So my best option is to buy a 'fake ticket'? As in, just to enter the country and afterwards I cancel it?

And also, how about visas for all other countries afterwards? Then I would start applying as a motorcycle traveler?
PS: Being from India, I need visa for each country :(

Thanks
Ricky

Each country will have its own rules for visa issue so you will have to do some specific research. For instance, although Brazil may issue visas in a couple of border towns ie Iguazu for other crossings you might have to apply at the Brazil embassy in an adjacent country. In Lima and Sydney it took 3 to 5 days and had to be done in person. For citizens of India it might be completely different. For some countries, you have to apply in your own country of residence so that can be a major complication.

This site might give you some clues https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visa_r...ndian_citizens
I found it very accurate for Australian citizens with a few exceptions relating to entry at land borders being different to entry by air - eg Paraguay I can get a visa at the airport but not at a land border.

I see that for Peru "National visa may be substituted with a valid US, Canada, Australia, Schengen Area or UK visa or permanent resident permit may be granted visa-free entry for a maximum of 180 days. The visa must be valid for a minimum of 6 months from the arrival date." so that might be one country that is easy. Ecuador is visa free so that is easy too. Colombia "National visa may be substituted with a valid C or D visa issued by a Schengen Area member state " so may not be so bad after all
