Broken Engine => Dumping bike in Kazakstan => Customs
Hello everybody,
Unfortunately, I had to leave my motorcycle in Kazakhstan with an engine damage. Now I wonder how I get out of the customs declaration that Russia has issued for the Eurasian Economic Union. The declaration is valid for nearly a year so I have time. Location of the motorcycle is Taras ca. 300km west of Almaty. I was together with a translator at the Kazakh customs. Nothing fas is possible they were talking about 3-4 weeks processing time. Not even burn it down would make things faster or cheaper. Theoretically, I have someone to take care of the import but I expect at least 300-500 € fees, customs duty etc. For the return transport I have only one offer over 2000€ because of extreme customs effort, another one is still open. Has anybody a good idea to get out of that easy and cheap. Best Regards Maikel |
Given the expense and hassle of dealing with customs is it not possible to travel back there with spare parts or a spare engine and ride it home?

Can't remember if Kyrgyzstan is now part of the customs union or not. I think it is though.
If so, just go to the Uzbekistan border, check the bike out of Kazakhstan and ditch it in no-man's land. If Kyrgyzstan is not part of the union, then you have a border crossing just south of Taraz where you could try to do the same, though I don't remember there being much space there. |
Usually is an option to "donate" bike to the state (customs) . It's (usually) doable if the "thing" worth something (that they can sell it on auction) .

If you can get the bike recovered to Almaty there are shops there who may be able to help you.

What kind of bike is it?
You should have some options: -uzbekistan no man's land, as suggested before -transport it to Almaty and repair it -transport it to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (part of custom union) and repair it -transport it to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (part of custom union) and ship it to Europe (cheapier than 2000€ for sure) |
