Bulgaria/Turkey border crossing -- NOT MY BIKE
 

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone could guide me on what paperwork will satisfy the border officials when not riding a bike with V5 in my name. Will be exiting Bulgaria and entering Turkey. The Bike is UK registered. I was thinking a notarised letter of permission by want to be more certain than a guess!

hi. not good news you will need translations power of atorny by legal nota plus and something called apostilsed (probably not correct spelling) which is a government reconised stamp from memory done at admiral house. i have my bike registed i my wifes name had decliration to travel etc and could not get in
best idea is go to local dvla and register to your name or by post takes about a week for return post but dont know your situation your bike or taking a friends. it is possible that they will not check all docs but not part of eu community and those turks dont favor the brits belive me.( there is a reason why we pay more than any other nationality for a visa)
anyway you have to pass through romania and i live there now.a place called brasov you have to pass it on the way to bulgaria and from the romanian boarder is only 4-5 hundred kms.
just some advice after hungaria your average miles will be 60 per hour so take that into account when planning.

Mike - thanks for help and offer of a place to crash. Actually going to be coming from the Balkans and into Bulgaria (trip website is London2Tbilisi if interested).

You will have to take into account Turkey's love of paperwork and stamps. A member of UKGSer managed to cross the border with a completely different V5 document (he had the one for his 1150 but not the 1200 he was riding), although I don't know what he did to manage this though. What I'd imagine you'd need is what mikeccm has already said, a notarised letter, officially translated, to say you have permission to ride the bike. I own a business in Turkey which has several company vehicles, and when taking one abroad I must have something similar as they are not in my name.

I'm taking the bike to the UK in a couple of weeks, and need to visit the office where this is done, so I can try to find out exactly what you'd need. Mail me at: slight32 'at' googlemail 'dot' com ifyou still need the info, and anything else related to Turkey.

Hi Tully,
I´m having the same problem, going to turkey with a bike that is registered under my company´s name. The ADAC (german automobile association) has a very simple paper in german and turkish, similiar to a power of attorney and, best part of it, free of charge, which is - according to them - good for border crossing into turkey.
I guess, you can get that at every national automobile association.

I had a chat to the Turkish consulate here in London and they told me I needed a power of attorney in Engligh and Turkish that has been legalised (signed and stamped by a lawyer), signed and stamped by the FCO (apostil legalisation its called) and taken to the Turkish consulate for legalisation from their side. Bloody complicated, but hopefully watertight!
