Buying a bike in India, riding to Ireland, Carnet
Hi
ok, I have decided to take the easy option and go to India, buy a Royal Enfield Himalaya and drive it back to Ireland. I have never needed a carnet on my trips to Russia or Mongolia so this is new to me. I am planning, Pakistan, Iran, Turkey and then Europe. Can I get a Carnet from ADAC Germany, I don't think there is an Irish Carnet issuer. I never plan to return the bike to India, possibly keep going to Canada and then down to South America |
This is a common question & has been asked many times, i don`t think they allow you to ride out of India on Indian plates.

Noraly at itchyboots managed to buy a new Himalayan in India, register it in her own name and get an Indian carnet issued. She also did a full write up . It's neither quick nor easy as you can expect. Anyway the link is below.
The real problem might be when /if you make it home and have to deal with a bike that may well be impossible to register in your own country . Probably worth checking up on. Remember that domestic Enfields are built to different standards than the ones they make for export. https://www.itchyboots.com/blog-1/ho...ke-to-malaysia Edit: She never got her deposit back from the Indian AA. |
Any New Information?
Did it work? Did you manage to get a Carnet?
