Buying a motorcycle in Greece and riding it to Denmark on transit plate(s)
Hello fellow bikers.
After a wonderful trip from Copenhagen/Denmark to England on my 1955 DKW RT 250/2 in September, I came back home and was promptly fired from the job I've had for 11 years 30 seconds after coming back to work  It's not all bad, since I have 6 months with pay and will be free from any work obligations the 30/11. So I'll have plenty of time to do silly things, before I have to panic and go find a job. I've gotten this crazy idea that I'll fly to Athens, buy a Honda C90 and ride it home to Denmark in December. Anyone done something like this in Greece? For now I've figured that I'll need to; 1) Find a bike thats in good working order. 2) I'll need to go to the customs office to get transit plate(s), I suppose I'll need to buy the bike first and bring the papers. 3) Get some really warm gear so I'll not end up a crazy biker popsicle. But, I'm unsure if the bike will need to have some kind of inspection/MOT before I can get the transfer plate in Greece. And I'm unsure how to get insurance on the bike, which I think is required for the transfer plates. Just tried calling the Greek embassy and they didn't know anything :) He suggested that I should just put the bike in a van and bring it home. Oh, If anyone actually lives in Athens and would like to help me on my silly quest do get in touch :) // Hans |
