CAA No longer issuing Carnets!
Per their website:
Carnet de Passages en Douane Sort of implies that you are stuck if/until a "European" based solution is in place, hopefully in the third quarter of 2015. The future sounds pretty vague and doesn't leave me with much of a warm fuzzy feeling. Anyone know any other options for a North American requiring a carnet for their bike? |
Oh for Pete's sake -- ^%$#@!
I got a carnet from CAA a few years ago to ride Africa, and now planning to return to Africa Sept/Oct 2015 and a carnet from CAA is on my to-do list. I just emailed Suzanne Danis at CAA an inquiry, asked if she had other suggestions, will share her response when I get it. Quick look indicates Canadian Chamber of Commerce issues carnets? How to Apply for a Carnet Canadian Chamber of Commerce I've been a member of the American Automobile Association aka AAA for years and have seen them scale back all sorts of products and services, looks like CAA is doing the same. Disappointing. |
Discussion on HU's Facebook group page
It seems the discussion is happening on HU's FB group page, although it makes more sense to have it here where it can be followed and found again. Here's the link to the FB discussion/info:

Very good idea Novas, thanks.
I just heard back from CAA on an email I'd sent. I'd asked if they could suggest alternative carnet providers in North America. Response: "We have nothing to add, we are still waiting to find out if and when this office will open in Europe to issue the Carnets. We will put you on an e-mail list and notify you as soon as we hear anything." Note the "IF" in the reply... |
