Carnet advice
Hi, i feel like this is another annoying question but whats the deal with the carnet? I'm doing London to Capetown (west coast) beginning of June and have applied for my carnet. I imagined i'd get it for every country i might pass through but apparently most of them don't accept it according to the RAC. They sent me a link to the FIA's website which says these are the only countries you can get it for:
Botswana Burundi Egypt Kenya Lesotho *Mauritania Namibia *Senegal *Somalia South Africa Sudan Swaziland *Tanzania *Togo *Uganda Zimbabwe not sure what the * signifies, doesn't say on the website. I'll only go through about 5 of those countries, so for the others its a case of TIP, laissez-passer etc? is it even worth getting the carnet then? sorry for another carnet question and thanks for any advise |

Back in 2012-2013 rode my motorbike west coast down, east coast up (us plates.Eu passport) without carnet,no bribes what so ever. If they ask you for carnet just play dump tourist,in Egypt ask for ONLY TIP(temporary import papers)you get refundable deposit $800usd when you exit. I exit in TAbA,border with Israel. Remember,be polite, nice and be very very patient!(you need it when you overland Africa) |
