carnet application
good afternoon folks, quick question maybe someone in the Uk can help me with. im trying to apply for a carnet through the link on HUBB with C.A.R.S
at present I work in the middle east and only return to the UK for a few weeks at at Time. this time I return I will be traveling back to work on my bike the long route and once work is finished next year this will be my start point heading on a RTW (covid dependent but hopeful) so im trying to get the carnet application submitted now so that its ready when I get home. problem is I have to print form and post it. the post here wouldn't be the most reliable Ive sent 2 emails to enquire with cars but no reply anyway does anyone know where I could do an application online ? |
Hiya. In my experience it is far better, quicker and cheaper to use a non UK issuer such as TCS….you’ll find more on this subject if you search the site

It is not unusual to use one of the following Issuer as foreigner.
Available are: CARS / ACS / TCS / ADAC The OEMTC did stop the Service at 2016 As I last time did wrote an Article about the carnet (March 2021) the german ADAC was the cheapest way, followed by the ACS: At least the swiss and german parts are very responsive. Does anyone here did test the Membership option? Probably you can check if you get a membership in front, to save some bucks (the fee is lower for Members). But if you forget to cancel the annual membership it is more expensive at the end... I didnt got a Membership as I did optain my carnet (issued by tcs) at 2012 or 2015 in switzerland, because I think it dosnt come a lot back. The german ADAC did offer more: Here are the ADAC Membership options: Attachment 25306 https://www.adac.de/mitgliedschaft/m...gliedschaften/ Stuff like that (europe /worldwide (Premium)) Towing to the workshop Shipping vehicle spare parts Accommodation costs Taking over travel expenses This can be cost saving for an extened trip, to get the spares into a foreign country - and has to be considered in my eyes. Above is just the vehicle part, they will do a lot more for travellers abroad. 139 Euros (annual) are a bargain in my eyes, for the overall coverage on an extended trip. I didnt take the german ADAC carnet by myself, because they where more complicated for issuing the carnet in technical details (i dont have a engine number visible as example). Surfy |
For ADAC membership you need to have a permanent residence in Germany!
If you aren`t member of ADAC you will only get a carnet from them if you have a membership in a FIA registrated automobil club. |

Yes for that reason I used TCS in 2016 as they were willing to issue carnet fir uk registered bike. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Thanks for the heads up folks, just an update, cars have now got back to me and can process the quote though email and have sent me a link to an online application form. Although my post tally looks like I’m a newbie I’ve been part of Hubb for years under a different username so I do search for information. It’s always good to ask the questions to keep the information current

Glad you are making progress with CARs now. Hopefully they have improved their pricing but the cost in 2016 was a multiple of what TCS charged me…..

Your query did let us get some informations togther: - the german ADAC delivers an outstanding additional service at their Memberships - we have to be resident in germany to use them - all other automobil clubs seems to sleep - and deliver not more of added value :censored: That point with the resident is readable at the website, about the FIA Membership I wasnt able to find anything written. I will query and will report about. Surfy |
I got an answer from the german adac today.
They avoid to answer the question, if a a foreign requester has to have a ACS Club Membership to optain a carnet. And I did request a to prove that directly :rolleyes2: :cool4: But at least we got the answer who was pretty clear in front - no options to get one of the Premium Membership goodies without to be an resident. ADAC confirmed to me in 2015 they would not provide carnet for a vehicle registered in another country which had its own carnet issuing entity (eg the UK now had CARS)

They’re useful for camping community etc but falling out of niche business rapidly. Would not recommend their services to overlanders, especially roadside assistance in Europe is a waste of money. BR Dooby |
