Carnet De Passage - Egypt - other Costs
 

Hello Guys

I just took a cruiser into Egypt at the weekend with a Carnet and you should be aware of additional costs which from my experience you won't encounter in any of 18 other African Countries -

1. Traffic: 35 Egyptian Pounds
2. Insurance: 510 Egyptian Pounds ( 200ish for a bike)
3. Customs Charges: 500 Egyption Pounds
4. Some other charge 30 Quid

If anyone knows whether or not the 3rd "customs charge" is legit or not I would be delighted top know as I have a feeling i was duped on that one.....

Also - make sure you have several copies of your carnet, passport, vehicle licence and visa made as there are generally no photocopiers at the border and you'll end up having to get a taxi to the nearest town to find a shop[ with one - which at 1am in the morning can be a bit of a hasstle

Don't feel too bad, we've all been stung with various miscellanious charges entering Egypt, they all look like the same ones that I paid so are probably legit.
