Carnet de passage - (London to tokyo cub90)
Hello, im looking to do London to Tokyo on my 1996 Honda cub90 in the coming months (Finish line being Honda HQ), I brought the bike for a whopping £500, but from what I can see ADAC stupidly requires a 3000EURO deposit.
What are my options to get round this, I only have £9000 budgeted (+possible work en route) for the entire trip, this will torpedo a 3rd of my budget. Options? Thanks |
I have just been through this exact problem with ADAC over the last few months.
Ready for some bad news? There is no other option. The ADAC Bank Guarantee option is not available to anyone other than German Citizens, which leaves you with no other option than to cough up the security deposit of 3,000E I tried every possibel avanue I could think of. I even contacted German banks to ask the guarantee procedure. I spoke directly to ADAC and exchanged around 30 messages to see if there was any other option. But there is none. ADAC can't issue the Carnet without having the security deposit in their own account. The security amount is refunded upon the bike returning to the UK or at least the EU. Carnet cost is 295E per 12 months. we have to cough up 2x 3,000E for our machines. Horrible EDIT: Also: The security deposit amount is non-negotioable. If you bike cost between 0 and 15k it's the same deposit. |
The Touring Club de France minimum is 2500E. It's only a small reduction, but every little may help. Have you looked at the other countries' clubs - each one seems to have slightly different rules. Touring Club Schweiz do carnets but I haven't looked at their pricing since finding it wasn't favourable in our case (Unimog with all that it entails).
