Carnet de Passage with ADAC

How long does it take for them to issue the Carnet de Passage since they receive the deposit and the documentation?

About a week/10 days depending on where you are in the world.

It's all written on the ADAC webpages itself, read through it and you have all the answers on all the questions you may have.

out of curiosity. Is the motorbike you are requesting the CdP for registered in Germany? or is it registered in the UK?

Well, I did read through the information on ADAC's website and they said nothing (or at least I could not find it) about the processing time. That's why I was asking...

neither of them. The motorbike will have a Nepalese plate and I hold a Spanish passport. The Spanish equivalent to ADAC only issues CdP to vehicles registered in Spain and they actually require to see the vehicle before issues it. So far, ADAC is the only one issuing the CdP in these circumstances (for an extra 155 euros).

that's true, I read RAC is giving you a hard time getting CdP with the ADAC... Actually, I am lucky, because the Spanish RACE also asks a lot of money for the deposit... A total nonsense...

I dropped an email to RACE this morning asking about whether they will issue CdP for motorcycles registered in other EU countries. (They don't have any ifno about this on their website :confused1:)

I will get back with their answer.

The deposit is not that bad after all. At least, you know that, eventually you are going to get your money back. Here in the UK, only have of the premium will be return after your trip :funmeterno:

RACE? You mean the Spanish RACE? Why would you do it with them? I called (the Spanish RACE) and they told me that the car had to be registered in Spain. Actually, the lady on the phone told me that before they issue the CdP they want to see the vehicle. That's the reason why I am going with ADAC.

Yes, I meant the Spanish RACE.
That's exactly what I wanted to find out. I wanted to know whether they would issue CdP for foreign EU vehicle, and how much deposit they would request. But yeah, I think you gave already this information.

Looks like the only choice so far is RAC then. The reason because I was looking at RACE is to avoid the cost of the CdP with them:

- 25 page CdP £195.00
- Insurance (i.e. value of bike 5000).
Premium=5000/500%(India, Nepal)=25000*10%= £2500 pounds (with 50% refunded on return of carnet.)
- RAC Refundable Deposit = £350

Total = £3045 (£1600 refund after the trip)

Compared to the cost of getting the CdP from ADAC, RAC's is ridiculous!

Ok, wait for their response, I contacted the office in Barcelona... In Spain you can get different answers depending on who you are talking to...

In any case, I think that with RACE you might get the CdP cheaper and the insurance is not mandatory. The real issue, is the deposit. When I talked to them I did not even ask but I have read that the deposit is several times the value of the vehicle, which can be significant. I know that at the end of the trip they refund the money, but in any case you have to have it... ADAC seems more straightforward and affordable altogether.

In conclusion, does the ADAC issue Carnets for vehicles registered in other EU-countries, owned by EU (but not German) citizens?
I am a Romanian citizen with a Romanian vehicle. The cost in my country is 500 EUR for 6 pages and the mandatory deposit is 15000 EUR, regardless of destination countries or value of the vehicle.
