Carnet for Ecuador
Howdy! I am in Panama and plan to go looking for a sensible passage to Ecuador on Monday. I read here http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/cou...or/protest.php that a carnet is no longer needed to enter the country, but I have read of people recently as a month ago being escorted to the border and deported because they did not have one. What is the real deal here? Can somebody clarify please? Thanks!!

hi,
we flew in to quito from panama (with 6 bikes a couple of days after each other)last december. no carnets needed! If still in doubt check with the local community, Ricardo Rocco is very helpfull. bye, Mark |
How does one get in touch with Ricardo Rocco? I am currently in Afghanistan, but upon my return, I would like to buy a bike in Ecuador and travel through Colombia and Venezuela. I am looking for help on this one.

We are in Quito, Ecuador at the moment and had no problem importing the bikes from Colombia into Ecuador. Exiting Colombia and entering Ecuador took all of an hour, however we had friends cross the very next day and it took 5 hrs as the Migracion and DIAN systems were down.
No carnet was asked, just have copies of the title/registration, drivers license and passport. No fees needed either. I believe Ricardo Rocco is riding up in Colombia at the moment for the holidays. Daryll |
you will NOT need a carnet for any countrys in south america . I have crosser 3 different borders for Ecuador this year and never heard of any one needing a carnet. Is the a reason that you want to missout on the best riding place that is Colombia ???
