Carnet for Venezuela?
Hi,
I am hearing many different answers about the necessity of having a carnet in Venezuela. Did anyone enter in this country without the carnet? Thanks, Anne. |

Anyway, since the last 19 years I have been traveling in South America I never needed a carnet, not even in Venezuela. When you buy a local bike or car it is in some cases a different story and also when you enter by ship in Guayaquil,Ecuador. But in venezuela you do not need a CdeP, not even when entering by sea. (by sea:you pay 1% of the value of the bike as custom duties for a temporary import permit). Original paperwork of the vehicle where it shows that you are the owner is enough for(mostly)easy border crossings. buen viaje, Marcel Kersten |
Thank you so much Marcel. This is exactly the answer I needed.
Me and my travel partners are travelling with bikes registered in the US. We want to fly from Panama to Venezuela and then drive south by Colombia, Ecuador.... This is good news then. Bises, Anne |
Hi,
Very true. Actualy, you can not even use one if you would want since Venezuela uses a "libretta". This is an other document, like a carnet, but for south america. However, you do NOT need it, not anywhere. Even in Ecuador it is not needed since they changed (or actually enforced) the import-law,s a while ago.
